3008WFP Colour Balance

I got my 3008WFP, but the colours seem wrong.

Im running under Vista and ive loaded the driver, but light grey comes out PINK. Take a look at this photo of my desktop.

After a lot of fiddling around, ive figured i can compensate for it by tweaking the red level in the custom controls of the OSD – but should this be necessary.
Im using the DVI connector. Also ive tried it on an old PC through normal VGA and it is the same.

Is this a fault or does this monitor require some sort of user calibration.

Thanks for any help,

Of course it does, it's a wide-gamut monitor. There should really be some sort of warning on these things so that unsuspecting buyers realise they'll have to shell out on either a new set of sunglasses or a calibration device.

Have a look at the Huey Pro, you can get it imported from the states for around £50.

Calibration

i understand that calibration is necessary for exact colour reproduction, but i would have expected it to be basically right without it.

for example, none of the preset colour settings in the OSD are acceptable. all have bogus colours. What's the point of them being there if they're all way off.

incidentally, i dont think the ICM profile is being loaded by Vista. i read there is a bug and it is ignored. certainly if i select another ICM, there's no visible change. or it could be my graphics drivers. I have a Radeon, and there are reports of gamma LUT problems with this series. but that could be old news.

trying to battle on,

The problem is each panel is slightly different, and the lighting conditions where the monitor end up also play a factor in the eventual colour reproduction. It's also a question of "taming" the over-saturated colours produced by a wide-gamut panel.

If you wanted Dell and the likes to pre-calibrate monitors they would cost a great deal more.

I had the exact same problem with my 3007wfp, i went through 4 of them and they all had the exact same, even after calibration the monitor whites looked pinkish, it seems that dell still have the same problem. So much for wanting to upgrade to 3008.

3008 Rev A02 - is it fixed now?

Having had two Rev A01 versions with backlight bleed issues at the top of the screen, the original (Czech made) faulty one replaced by Dell with a repaired (Chinese made) but still faulty one, I am a little wary of getting bitten again. I was very impressed with the 3008, but the backlight problem was very poor on a panel costing £1000.

A couple of questions for the assembled experts here..........

1: Does the Rev A02 still have this build quality problem of have Dell finally got the the bottom of it?

2: One supplier is offering a "zero pixel defect" Dell warranty. Is this a pile of hogwash and is the standard offering from Dell so OC have the same deal?

Dell demanded evidence of any faults and I told them they were welcome to come here and take pictures, but I also pointed out to the that within 6 months of purchase the onus is on them not me. The supplier could get nowhere with Dell so they have collected the panel and I am awaiting a refund.

Just got my A02 revision on Saturday, and so far I have to say it is faultless. I have little to no backlight bleeding (if you display a black image in very dark surroundings then the top right corner is very, very slightly lighter than the rest. Any other conditions and you honestly cannot notice, and matches what I have seen from other top LCD panels). I have also checked for stuck or dead pixels, and I am very happy to say my LCD is so far perfect.

So far I have had a Vista PC, Macbook Pro, 360 and a PS3 hooked up and the display has handled each with ease, even giving 1080p/24 playback on BD films.

All in all a more than worthy upgrade from my trusty HP l2335.

high due to the "improved" scaler chip being used (improved in that it can do more input resolutions).

Well I cannot say I have noticed any significant lag. I was playing DMC4 last night and I was able to pull off all the moves and combinations that rely on accurate timing that I was before.

This was on an input resolution of 1920x1200 (sending a native 2560x1600 sometimes causes stuttering on my xfire setup which is a killer for this kind of game)

As they are confirmed as A02 I am hoping to get one of these at the end of the month (if they are still in stock)

Mine has A02 on the label at the rear of the screen. Just as promised.

(If it wasn't I would give my Dell account manager a call :p )

Just a shout out to ask if anyone has received a 3008wfp with any dead pixels?
I know layte had none and I am hoping it's the same for all.

It would not normally be a problem, but where I am, having to return it will be a right pain in the b%t.
