The Dell 3008WFP Thread

SM305T is a inferior screen though.

Depends what your after and what you want it for.... I only require it for gaming, so dont need all the connections...

would you guys who have one say its worth the price tag??

and what if i could pick one up for £950inc? worth it?

wanting a 30" back and i dont want to chance buying a 3007WFP second hand to find out its **** and ive wasted my money so id rather get something with warranty.

StevenG

Well i picked up a SM305T for under £850 so i'm happy just waiting for delivery now.... Certainly aint paying over £1000 for a screen

Please do let us know what you think of the screen, ones youve got it and set it up ;)

No problem Sylver - I'm really excited to be honest!!!! Roll on Thursday

Once it has had 100 hours use I'll be getting it calibrated with a Sencore colour analyser off a friend of mine who is ISF certified - He did my main TV and I know when he has finished setting it up it will look as good as it possibly can.

Cheers

I am thinking of getting one of these I have one question tho

I currently have a 2407 connected to my 8800GTX

If I get the 3008 and use the dual link cable on one of my dvi outputs can
I use the other dvi output to connect to my 2407 as well an go dual monitor ?

I cant decide between getting a 3008 or a 2707

Decided to cancel my SM305T order as there is a SM305T+ lurking that samsung say exists but no data announced and is £100 more , so I decided to pick upa Dell3008WFP from overclockers instead - arrives Saturday :D

cant wait now, want something to tinker with and the missus is going out :(

Ok, my screen has been up and running for about 30 hours and one word.................wow!!!!

Image quality is so much better than the 2405 (I cannot stress this enough, it's huge) - I ran my DVE DVD which has lots of test patterns for pluge, colour saturation etc and even at stock settings it's not a million miles away.

Build quality is also very, very good, nice solid bezel and the cantilever on the back of the stand is a work of art!

At some point over the next month or 2 I can see myself with a blu-ray drive being added to my machine.

2560x1600 is one seriously impressive resolution for gaming/windows in general.

As mentioned in an earlier post once it's had a couple of weeks use I'll be getting it properly calibrated.

All I can really say is anyone thinking of investing in one of these

DO IT!!!

You won't regret it!

Damn , I have had the monitor 2 days now but I have a problem with back light bleed.

Do any other users of this panel have any back light issues are I am just unlucky as usual ?

Bottom right corner , top right are the worst but there is also some coming through at top midddle of the screen.
I have tried adjusting brightness / contrast ( man o man this a a bright panel - using about 30bright 40 contrast at moment)
but problem is still very visible when watching movies that have top / bottom borders.

Any others users thoughts on this? Should I rma it for a new unit ( after all was over 1000 of your earthling pounds)

Could be a dup in this thread, review here

http://www.behardware.com/articles/703-1/dell-3008wfp-hc.html

Overall disappointing for the money these things cost.

Thats a retarded unprofessional review, they dont even configure it. Think it might have been linked already... not sure... but i have deja vu after seeing it.

As i mentioned in my review you need to configure this display first, as everything is a bit screwed on default. Once setup properly nothing compares.

Can you get a pic of it? I have a very tiny amount of backlight bleed, but every LCD i've ever had has had atleast some. It's nothing at all bad on my 3008, infact i cant notice it unless on a all black screen, and even then it's hard to see.

Same here, mine has some BLB (lower left and right) but once into desktop you cant see it, really love the screen tbh using Autocad on it reminds me of being on a drawing board again (its that good). Cant game at native res though (even though the GTX can handle it) as you have to physically move your head when playing Cod4.

Mr B I copied your set up details to the letter and found it to be rather green for my liking and had to tone it down a tad.

LOAM

A bit green? hmmm thats interesting, i dont get that at all. If it varys even slightly with each individual display then those setting of mine will be pretty useless... but i'm hoping to get another 3008 sometime, and i'll try the same settings on that.

The US Dell website recently removed the 3008 from sale, i haven't checked the UK site yet but other stores still have it. I think that they are having trouble getting the larger glass for the display.

Hi Folks,
Update: I phoned the good folks at dell and got speaking to a pretty helpfull scotish bloke.
Due to the monitor being brand new when fault reported the brand new replacement unit has to be ordered in ( 7-10 Day wait ) , so I should be getting a new one next weekish. ( wasnt going to accept a recon )
The bleed is annoying , when watching a movie with top/bottom bloack borders it is very noticeable ( Compared to my 2407fpw )
At night when I do most of my gaming it is very visible on black loading screens / dark picture moments

K , just for you buddy I did a quick pic

1. It was taken in afternoon with curtains closed ( so doesnt look as bad as it does in the evenings )

2. It was taken using my carpy camera phone ( so res is not great )

The areas in question.
a. Lower right ( draw an arc from corner out to about 8 inches )
b. Upper right ( draw an arc from corner out to about 5 inches )
c. Just left of top Center ( draw an arc from corner out to about 3 inches )
d. Top left ( draw an arc from corner out to about 3 inches )

On another note , I bought my of OCuk for 1050 inc vat , look how the price has jumped up !!
Glad I bought it when I did :-)

I read today (on Anandtech) that this monitor is being/has been removed from the Dell website (they could just mean the US one) due to an undisclosed technical fault

(Im not trying to cause problems with OCUK, so mods please remove if necessary - just thought it was fair to notify people)

Cant find the link I was thinking of but a google does repeat the same news

Its expected back at some point.....but no idea when
