The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

I'm going to cancel my preorder and buy on steam. Its only £5 more, I get it preloaded, and guaranteed that when I wake up on my day off on Friday I can unlock it, put on a pot of coffee, and play. All. Day :D.

Exactly what I have done. I'm so hyped up about this game I would go crazy if I couldn't play on release day. Now I can relax, pre-load via Steam & play from midnight!!

Haven't seen any confirmation that it will preload either. I mean, it *probably* will and buying it off Steam makes it less likely that there will be issues getting the game ready for release, but that isn't to say there will be NO issues. There might not be a preload, and after release the Steam servers are going to get hammered.

Cool platypus - i dont blame you. In light of the fiasco with the release of Battlefield 3 and EA boycotting Steam.. this release is a breath of fresh air.

I haven't ordered my copy of Skyrim from Steam, but from a supermarket, but like you I'm hoping next Friday morning i will enjoy a nice cup of coffee and boot this game up.

Pre-load confirmed by Pete Hines:

Fans who purchase Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Steam will be able to pre-load the game before it's November 11th launch date. In attempt to ease slow downloading on it's actual launch date, Bethesda will make Skyrim available for download a few days before the actual game releases. This doesn't mean player's will get early-access to the game, however. The pre-load will only allow players to download it and ensure access to Skyrim the second it launches.

Bethesda's Director of Marketing and PR Pete Hines confirmed the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim pre-load via Twitter, answering multiple fan questions. "Yes, you will be able to preload on Steam," said Hines when asekd by fans. He didn't actually reveal the date fans can begin pre-loading, however

I went with the pre-order from Steam. I'm not too fussed about having the map, and I think buying the digital copy provides the best chance of having the game on launch day.

Thanks for the info on heavy armour penalties with magic use Bhavv. It's a pity there are no perks to reduce that penalty. Guess I'll go full magic first then :)

Not even something like a sorceror would be able to get benefits of heavy and magic? In which case I might go for a more non-aggro mage with warrior due to the Skyrim Nordic theme. Quite tempted to go for a Nord character as well - would be unusual for me!

I'll wait and see what it offers though!

There are no classes in Skyrim. Armored mages have been hit with the nerf stick, while unarmored mages and mage robes given a huge buff.

Altmer in robes with one of the Restoration perks gain 75% faster Magicka regeneration.

Also the final Enchantment perk gives all your equipment a second enchant slot! So I'm going to be going Alteration + Destruction maxed out, 25% faster magicka regen from Restoration, silent casting from Illusion, then Enchantment maxed (maxed as in fully perked).

After I have Alteration, Destruction and Enchant fully perked out, I backfill Illusion and Restoration. My mage clothes will hopefully be double moddable with Magicka bonuses (another perk in enchant also gives you double value health / magicka enchants, that plus double enchant slots = Sweet!)

I found a sneak peak of a review :D

I work for the Chicago Tribune and recieved a copy of Skyrim last weekend.

I have played it for a total of 40 hours so far. I can't give you any spoilers or my review, atleast not yet, but I can tell you that it is awesome!

One of the best games I have played all year!

I like all the thought that's going into this but I'm just going to go with the flow. I find in TES games that I find my own niche that I'm comfortable with with the character I'm playing.

Well you need to start picking perks from your first level up, so you need a general idea of what skills you want to specialize in.

You only get 1 perk per level with about 8-10 perks per skill.

Major / Minor skills and stat increase multipliers are fully gone thank god, but now you have to plan your perks.

Indeed, no planning before playing for me. I'm going to stumble into the light and see where my feet take me :)

Not strictly true if what I have read is correct, you can save them up to spend all at once. I will take the route of spending on essential "any character" ones but not spend other points until I am certain what I want to do and how I want to do it.

I'll probably go with a black paladin/reaver style character. Heavy armour, a single-handed sword, a shield and plenty of conjuration (arise my evil pets) and alteration. I suppose I might swap the shield with a second sword or magic depending on the situation.

Will save my perks for later in the game if it is possible, don't like using them up too early as my direction tends to change.

I quite like this, actually. In a game where there are no classes, it's good to have things that make different items and play styles worthwhile. Otherwise every character looks the same (dressed in the best armour), and you're forced to nerf your character if you want to RP a traditional mage.

This is true ^ you can save perks for as long as you want, not that it would be beneficial, but obviously you aren't forced to spend them.

Guessing battle mages will be more Gandalf style - robes, sword in one hand, staff in another (or magic.)
