The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

He mentioned the Mage, Fighter, and Thief Guilds, but not the Dark Brotherhood. :(

oh yeah! :( knew something was missing! the dragon animations look really good! they say this is a brand new engine but something tells me this is a really heavily modded engine from oblivion/fo3

There will probably be an incarnation of a guild of assassins -- Morrowind had the Morag Tong, Oblivion had the Dark Brotherhood etc. The visuals are decent, and animation are a huge step up (aside for the janky falling on the giant.) One thing I really hope is that some of the kill animations are forcible from stealth or something for an assassin / thief style.

Edit - I think the dragon priest levitating up before you fight him looks awesome. (Vid2).

Never had that with any game from them, must be your computer?

No its not its a know fact. Microstutter. Thats why they have oblivion stutter remover and fallout 3 stutter remover. Look around. You must be the only person to not experience it on a modern pc.

I've never had it either.

You said you had it for Morrowind as well on the last page. Surely it's just an incompatibility thing with certain machines.

They'll be a community fix in days for Skyrim if it's actually an issue, if it is Gamebryo I bet the ones from FO3/Oblivion wouldn't even need that much changed.

Definitely my most anticipated game of the year! Loved Morrowind and Oblivion, must have racked up 100s of hours on them both.

Even though they both had their own faults it didn't take anything away from the game for me.

its not. i had it on older machines. its the engine.

I really hope dragons won't be that common but that they will be huntable, ie you can track them down and it might take you maybe an hour or so to find one out of nothing. It's not going to be very epic if they are turning up all the time or only at certain parts in the story.

I hope they are going to be creatures that are dropped into the world and not that spawn at certain times.

When did the transition of skill trees to perk trees happen. I hear the word "perk" used a lot now in games where some sort of upgrade, advancement or attachment is involved. Fair enough if you are adding something to a weapon which could easily be called a perk but when it is you/the character who has gained a new skill why are they calling it a perk. It's a skill as far as I'm concerned.

I really like the look of the interface this time around and the interaction with npcs has been improved which looks fantastic. I just wish it was November now.

Bethesda confirmed that they’re making Skyrim primarily for consoles, then porting to PC, they’ve now commented that they want to make the game “really accessible”.

“We still have the complexity behind the scenes,” said lead producer Craig Lafferty, “but we wanted to make it so that you could pick up the controller and play and it was easy; the average person could get into it.”

Bethesda’s Craig Lafferty has commented that consoles are the “lead SKU” for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and that the PC version will essentially be a port of the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions.

Did people really expect anything new from that?, they already mentioned " streamlined " like 10 times.

They are calling them perks as thats what Fallout calls them plus as you said its todays buzz word for skills/progression. I think its more strange to call a scope or another weapon attachment a perk but not really important, what is, is if there is a company car/horse perk or free drinks/potions from the chilled drink cabinet :p

Anyway the new skill trees should be good, bring it a bit more variety to characters and combat etc. As much as I like the elderscrolls the combat aside from spells mostly comes down to hitting lmb and running around the enemy. More skills rather than just power attack, plus dragon shouts and however the general combat improvements work should make it a bit more interesting.
