The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

These Nords party hard; I got drunk with some guy in Windhelm and woke up in a temple in Markarth, where a priestess had a go at me for tearing the place up and fondling a statule of Dibella:eek::o:D.

There's a fortify skill cap of 29%, so that's the limit AFAIK. You can make a fortify enchanting potion, drink it to enchant gloves etc with fortify alchemy, wear those to brew up another firtify enchanting potion etc etc, but once you hit the cap of 29% that's as good as you can get.

You can go about it however you like tbh, you don't lose out on any quests by advancing a questline(apart from an obvious one where you have to choose a side). As for a break in the main quest for exploring(i like to do this as well) you are probably at a decent point atm, also there is a good point later in the main quest line where you are asked to find someone with little indication of where he is, I did quite a bit of exploring at taht point and got quite a few sidequests done). Also, the game continues after the main quest ends, so if you wanted to you could go straight through it(not to everyones taste though).

As for Soul gems, you fill them by using the spell Soul trap, or with an enchanted weapon which traps souls after a creature is killed.

Here is a useful article on soul gems

Also FYI there are spoiler tags now;)

Thanks, filled up some soul gems and now I'm having some fun enchanting :D

Yeah mages and companions don't mix, at least atronachs and zombies don't care if you blow them up ><

Not too bad when you hit Expert level spells though I guess and they go back to being single target.

There is an easy way to for leveling Chemistry and Enchant?

Yes, use them a lot :)

I guess if you really wanted to level alchemy faster you could use Giants Toe and Wheat to create a fortify health potion, that improves the alchemy level faster, the potion also sells for quite a lot of money compared to other potions.

I have just realised that I have played Oblivion for probably over 300 hours combined(over many different playthroughs over the years) and over 100 hours of Skyrim and i have never once invested in a shop or gone down the whole merchant route. I{ will have to do that at some point, probably my next play when the dlc has been released.

Also, i hardly ever use alchemy either

Can't say you're missing much as far as Speech and Merchants goes. I'll try going down that route when I create an illusion/dagger/pickpocket/thief type char, though 'Fence' is pretty far along in the speech tree. Guess it'll be a nice alternative to using alchemy if I can make enough money to buy them regularly from alchemists.

Alchemy is pretty good once you get a few perks behind it. My regular damage health poison does about 70 damage (with the right ingredients, since there seem to be 3 different strengths of it) and my Lingering poison does about 150 over 10 seconds. Paralysis lasts for 15 seconds too. Seems to be a lot stronger than any you can buy.

I accidentally gave Lidia a staff of fireballs once...

Big mistake.

She now has a staff of zombies instead so raises anything and everything.
Yeh staffs like that are a recipe for disaster. I've got Mjoll the Lioness following me at the moment, she's got a Staff of Storm Atronach that is nice :D
Plus I can cast one of them myself using magicka, or perhaps a Dremora Lord.

2 Storm Atronachs doing long range damage with me and Mjoll running in hitting things goes through enemies very quickly :D

Is it bad that I've never bothered with companions in this game? Admittedly my main character is a stealth based fighter and my new one is an evil assassin, but still, I haven't even had Lydia follow me at all, never mind searching out others.

If your 'staff' is shooting fireballs, I think you may have a problem :p

If you're playing a stealthy character then no, just no. They will only ever mess things up. If you're playing a Mage... depends really. At ~lvl22 I'm using Fireballs and Chain Lightning as my main spell which are obviously very bad for companions. Warrior, always nice to have a companion with you in heavy armour to take some hits for you. Lydia doesn't seem to survive much more than you're capable of though. I think the NPCs armour rating is worked out differently to you though so she should have a considerably better rating than you for any given set of armour, not including perks.

I've done 165 hours, level 27.5, and have never done any smithing, so I'm jealous of all those with fancy dragon armour :p I've never had enough carry weight to carry more than I always need with me (though my thief armour gives me 20 points extra carry weight) and have left dragon bones behind. I've got 42,000 gold and have not really sold anything yet or bothered to buy a house. I need to start selling items but I get too engrossed in the millions of quests I keep getting. This game never ceases to amaze me, just how they put it all together, it really is incredible. So much stuff, so many places, so much detail, so many fantastic storyline complexities, so many books to read, how on earth did they do it.
