The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

No you didn't.

I said you should ask for advice *before* throwing a strop. You threw a strop and asked for advice at the same time (or after, if I'm being picky about the order of your words).

If you had missed out this bit:

"Urgh Steam's ****** directories **** me off."

then you'd not look like a complete douche.

Just got the destruction level master spells, Become Ethereal is good to keep you alive as you charge them up. Turned an Ancient Dragon into a pile of ash with Lightning Storm. Though the dragon was half dead already... :)

Heh, isn't that spell a bit unreliable though? Or is that just the Dragon Shout version that also has a habit of killing allies.

It is the shout Storm Call that zaps everything. Lightning Storm is a super powered sparks spell.

Level 3 Storm Call is immense, wipes out entire camps :)

I dunno, I found Ice Form to be very useful, when fighting 2v1, freezing one of the enemies and taking them on one at a time. Or just using it to give me time to heal and regain magicka/stamina. Though now I have Paralyse so don't really need Ice Form.

I have been using Elemental Fury with my Ebony Greatsword, as I used one handed + shield most the game, so my two handed was rubbish. At level 59 now and it is very hard to switch skills so you can level up. No perks and low skill in two handed mean it is very weak vs tough enemies. Also no blocking and my use of light armour means I get squashed in a few big hits.

A lot less, when I block with shield I take almost no damage, even vs Ancient Dragon, blocking with 2 handed weapon and 1/3 my health is gone :)

Yep. Shield blocking is overpowered in this game. Especially since there are no strength pre-requisites required to stop light armoured or mage types using strong shields.

Ah of course, I was getting confused. Does sound like a fun spell, bar the no movement and extreme mana costs... and long charge up time >< Still, I'm a long way from Master spells on my mage type char. With any luck my Illusionist will be getting his line soon which will be hilarious. I'll be joining the Stormcloaks so I'll get to waltz into the middle of an Imperial camp, use Mayhem, and watch :D

I think become ethereal is the best shout in the game. Such a simple thing, but incredibly powerful.

Never bothered with it myself. I've been putting Unrelenting Force to good use on my 1H+Shield warrior. Was trying to walk round the edge of a cliff when a bear jumped me... so I blasted it off the edge and watched it plummet to its doom.

With an Amulet of Talos and Talos Blessing it recharges reasonably fast (9 seconds for basic, 27s for full power). Lets me send enemies flying off objects for some damage and when powerful foes are on the ground I can clear up all his minions or beat him down while he's on the floor. Best of all Lydia doesn't mind if I accidentally launch her across the room with the rest of them :D

Its not THAT powerful, though I agree that it should be based a little more heavily on your shield skill and the type of shield you use. I don't see the point in going beyond 1/5 Shield Wall. First point is 20%, subsequent points add 5%. Not really a worthy investment.

I was beginning to wonder why I had nearly 300 worth of gear on me even after selling up...
...then halfway through a quest I realised I had 64 Iron Daggers on me that I had slowly collected through the last bunch of Word of Power and Companions quests and mistook them for Iron Arrows when selling loot ><

I think when they first play tested the game, they got in to a fight on top of a mountain, used Unrelenting Force to blast them off it, then turned to eachother, nodded and said "we've got a game here;)"

The fall damage mechanics for enemies/allies are so broken but probably :p You can see enemies hit the ground, then it takes about a second before it registers any damage.

With the amulet of Talos, become ethereal rank one only takes a handful of seconds to recharge between uses (unless you cancel it early) = regular access to instant invulerability.

I suppose it depends on what build you are playing, but with say illusion it's crazy - well you're untouchable with illusion anyway, but it adds a whole other dimension to play :D.

Besides, it's fun being able to stand in the face of a dragon and laugh. Or a giant, or anything for that matter.

But anyway, all the shouts are fantastic in their own way - aura whisper and ice form would be my second and third choices.

Yup, but you can't attack anyone. Though you can prepare spells, also regenerate magicka. If you meditate on the word of power with Parthurnax then you regenerate health faster too whilst ethereal.

Well, I guess I've pretty much completed the game now :/ Have completed the main quest, delivered the masks and earned the 9th. Done all the guild quests, just need to recruit blade members and do the civil war. I think I'm going to help the imperials wipe out the stormcloaks. I think 10 more hours to have done everything.

Can you share some pointers on the Masks?
I only have 2, found randomly during quests. is there actually a quest to get them all, and if so where is it started? I have cleared Labyrinthian but didnt find The DP Shrine, and I havent been able to find Bromjunaar Sanctuary either to get the wooden one.
any help appreciated.

edit: never mind.. found the wooden mask.. I guess it doesnt launch a quest though does it? you need to hunt the others down

IIRC for the masks:

You need to wear the wooden mask in the room you found it. That will take you back to a previous period in time (ish) where the room will be in its non-ruined state. There is a rack in that room for all the D-Masks to be placed when you have collected them, do that and you should start the quest for the final mask.

From memory, but should be close enough :p

Lol, well I can see 'Become Ethereal, waltz into centre of mob, cast Mayhem, Become Ethereal again and watch the chaos' being quite entertaining.

I don't really see the point in the Fire/Frost Breath shouts. The only time I've ever used Fire Breath is against those ******* Ice Wraiths (I can clear out Silver Hand compounds without an issue but 2 Ice Wraiths kill me without even trying ><) since Unrelenting Force doesn't affect them at all. Guess it could be I need higher ranks of the shouts but I've only ever found one so far.

I've been travelling back to the Greybeards quite often though lately to go searching for Words of Power they've found. Course the problem is now that I have 1 Dragon Soul spare and about 5 shouts to unlock :p
