The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Have you tried the Midas Magic mod?

I've installed it, but starting out with an Illusion character so can't afford all the spells right now. I'd bring out my sneak/thief character to buy them, but I doubt her 100 magic would help cast many :p

Although I now have a spell to conjur up a Dragonling... he's SOOO cute.. pity he doesn't fight, but that's an intended improvement for the mod soon.

No but I've looked at it a couple of times. I recall it for Oblivion and skipped over it since it was so ridiculously overpowered. Seems he's trying to balance it a little more this time so I might give it another look at some point.

Just got the main quest and the Empire/Storm Cloak civil war quest lines to do. I've joined the Imperial Army, despite having just completed the Dark Brotherhood quest line... "what's that General Tullius?, swear allegiance to the Emperor and the Empire?, sure you do know he's
got an arrow sticking out of his back on board his ship?
You don't seem to have a problem with that? excellent where do I sign?"

:)

This is perhaps one of the only areas Bethesda could improve upon. Consquences of your actions. Some quest lines should open up or close down dependant on your behaviour. Doesn't really make sense in some circumstances.

The game is still holding my attention. Great fun.

It seems fairly sensibly balanced, my new char is level 11, and the spells aren't cheap to purchase nor to cast.... so I don't have most of the spells yet.

Best thing so far is 'conjur pickaxe' :D I never have one handy when I want one.

Lol, it is tempting to get the mod just for that I'll admit. I might give it a try when I feel like jumping back on my mage-type character since it seems to have a 'cheat' in that all the spells are available upstairs in Riverwood Trader so I can try them out.

Not really. You fight 1 in Mzulft and it would just be too big to use anywhere but outside or very large indoor rooms.
Conjure Dragon Priest on the other hand... bit of Morokei and his obscenely high damage lightning spell and Storm Atronach please.

As an alternative to Midas Magic to make magic less than useless late-game (without adding new ones or suffering the crashing glitces) I came across this which looks promising. Doesn't add any spells but gives you a few .esp's to alter each school of magic and another one to select from 3 different levels balance in combat regen, dual cast cost/damage and spell cost reduction with skill level.

The changes to Destruction look interesting. Base damage of all spells is lower than normal (except Flames/Frostbite/Sparks) but each perk from the Mastery line taken (Novice, Apprentice, etc) increases damage by 50% and the Augmented perks are multiplicative so at Master with 2/2 Augmented the Novice spells do 42/sec Expert spells do 126 while Master spells cast faster and Fire Storm can do a max of about 450 damage at point blank and Lightning Storm will do around 225/sec.

Just been doing a pretty interesting trio of quests starting with 'Scoundrels Folly', which led to 'Speaking with Silence' and which now has led to 'Hard Answers' (my current quest) all involving Mercer Frey from the thieves guild and Karliah. I won't give anything anyway, but it's quite intriguing.
Anyway, after clearing snow veil sanctum (which meant lydia couldn't follow me in since mercer frey became my follower), lydia returned. But she still wouldn't follow me inside the the sanctum, and it's littered with slaughtered deathlord draugrs, most of which have weapons valued from 800 to 1400 gold, and one weapon worth over 5000 gold. I've already got 208K, but I want more for no good reason. :p So I had to go back in myself and collect all the goodies which meant being overencumbered almost straight away and then by about 400 carry weight excess. Took about 15 tedious minutes to slowly walk the whole sanctum till I got everything, then gave it all to lydia when I exited. Without any enchantments and upgradeing, this loot will probably be worth another 20K. Greed I tell you, that's what it is!

3 words for you, other than "you greedy *******" :p

You're not wrong. :D

You know all the claws we pick up to open those puzzle doors. Is it safe to sell them once they've been used, I presume I won't need them again?

Probably but I just kept them anyway.

Just had a fight with an awesome Silver Dragon!

:D

In the words of Lydia, "I've never seen anything like that". Where is the silver dragon then?

/facepalm :p

Its a generic dragon but the texture didn't load properly for whatever reason so I wound up fighting that. Moment it died the texture loaded. Happened a couple of times now, think its just down to the game loading too much, my pc being crap (I am on low settings after all), and the texture for the dragon being forgotten about.

On a side note, please tell me there are more finishing moves for dragons with other weapons? There is only ONE for a Sword and I'm getting tired of seeing it because it looks stupid.

I have seen 2 finishing moves with 1 handed sword, though they are the same really, just 1 is longer with more slashing before you jump off.

With a 2 handed sword there is 1 finishing move I have seen where you just stand in front and slash the dragon's head twice.

Funny when you have the lightning perk that turns targets to ash. Works on dragons too, and the ash pile is the same size as a human ash pile. :)

Some info on the 1.4 patch from Nexus site: http://www.skyrimnexus.com/index.php

From Bethblog:

It’s been a few weeks since our last update on Skyrim’s status, so we wanted to share details on what we’re working on.

The Creation Kit and Steam Workshop are nearly ready. We’re currently working with members of Valve and our modding community to do some final testing, and we’re on track for a public release near the end of the month. We think Skyrim modding is one of the game’s best features, and we have the best modders of any game. It’s been a lot of exciting work for us, and we can’t wait to unleash it.

Skyrim’s 1.4 update is currently undergoing testing on all three platforms. The update will include fixes and optimizations for the most common issues people have been reporting (see below). We’re hoping to finalize this next week, and submit it to the console manufacturers for certification, as well as release on PC.

Our current update plan for the PC is to first release our updates as “beta” versions through Steam. This is something you’ll be able to opt into through Steam and back-out of if needed. This is an extra safety check for everyone going forward and should expedite and improve our updating process for our PC users. We’ll have more info soon on how this will work.

Echoing what we said back in December, we’ll continue to look into issues that are being reported and subsequent updates will follow. You have all supported Skyrim in a huge way, and we’ll be supporting all of you, and continue to make the game better.

After the break, check out the current changelog for 1.4.

Im stuck on a sidequest i think it may be bugged. Its the quest where you find the redguard woman. I decided to side with her and bribe one of the guards. But he doesnt do anything after he takes the money, he doesnt let the prisoner out and i cant see the key anywhere?

Shame they dont seem to have fixed the quest where you have to collect 30/30 Nirnroot in Blackreach. That took me AGES only to find out the damn quest is bugged and un-hand-inable!!

Think you might need to talk to one of the guards to say you will pay his bounty.
