The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Personally I just cast soul trap as a spell instead of having it on weapons, then put some extra damage boost into the weapon enchantment instead since I can land soul trap on the enemy before it even gets into melee range most times and have it last the duration of the fight. Having it bound to a hotkey makes it useful for swapping in. Also means my weapon enchantment isn't wasted on creatures you can't (or don't need) to soul trap.

But that's just my preference.

Still unsure what to concentrate on. I am level 5 and have 2 perks in to Conjuration, as I find it quite fun and 1 in destruction. I am currently deciding between Illusion and Restoration for my third magic spec(not bothered about maxing the skill trees tbh, some perks are not really needed).

Other than that, I am going for One-handed(I am using Bound sword a lot) sneak, Speech and another undecided.

So that will make it:

Destruction
Conjuration- Bound sword, summons
Restoration/block- you need some protection!
One-handed- needed tbh, plus backstab is great
Sneak
Speech- I want to get trading going as I have never really bothered with it before
Another- between Alchemy and Archery

One question for those who have tried them- Block or Restoration/wards

I'd be another to advise (from experience) not bothering with destruction. The period of the game for which it is actually useful is terribly small (weak at first, great for a while when you can stagger with dual casts, and then really weak later on).

Block is very effective, but you don't need too many points in shield wall early on as it's effective even at level one until later in the game, so you can safely level resto as well. In resto it's not worth investing more than four points total imo (novice to adept resto and regeneration). The other perks aren't worth the points compared to what you could be putting elsewhere.

Out of those two skills, I'd go for 4 points in resto so you can cast adept heals for half magicka and have 50% extra healing, then start pumping block.

I never even realised there's a soultrap spell. I've been using weapons, currently mace of molag bal, with soul trap enchantment. I need to find or buy that spell.

Hrm after 135 hours it's starting to lose it's appeal. Tonight I just couldn't be bothered to do anymore quests. Methinks I'll go play something else for a bit then try coming back to it. :(

Milkdrinker. :D

Every undiscovered location is a new adventure for me. I can't get enough of it.

I got that too so went and played BF3 until I reached level 43 on that. Now might switch back to playing Skyrim again and start with another character.

Did similar, and gave up on BF3.

Rolled a dark-elf pure mage (having spent 156hrs with a sneaky character). Strategy is to use conjured creature plus follower as tanks.

I tend to have periods of business in life - essay due in, can't access computer for a bit, or the such like. Really helps keep me interested :)

Not played this game for awhile now having focused on BF3. Just realized that the creation kit has been released!

So thought i'd have a play with it and managed to create an everlasting Azura star just by changing both the value's to grand soulgem.

Am I missing something here? Azura's Star is already an everlasting grand soul gem, except it can't absorb souls from sentient creatures.

I use just the bound sword and bound bow and have done ever since I've been able to conjure them. The bow in particular is amazing and you never need anything else. You'd be amazed how light you are when you don't have to lunk physical weapons around and they're also very useful for those moments in the game when you find yourself without any weapons. Plus you get skill points every time you conjure them.

I have loads of empty soul gems, how do I fill them up and how do I know how powerful a soul is? What do I then do?

Cast "soul trap" on an enemy then beat the **** out of it. OR have X weapon with the soul trap enchantment.

Depending on the level of the enemy will govern how "large" the soul is.

It goes from petty > lesser > common > greater > grand.

You can't trap humanoid souls unless you have a black soul gem.

Also you won't be able to fit a greater soul in a common soul gem.

For more info.

Don't forget that using the Soul Gem will destroy it. If you get a small soul in a big gem, though, you can apparently empty it by dropping it. It's worth scumming up to Winterhold ASAP so you can get the Black Star quest, the reward for which is a reusable Grand/Black Soul Gem (depending on how you choose to complete it).

Getting the Star is also one of the best ways to level Enchanting; as it's reusable, you can put Soul Trap on a weapon and use it to recharge that weapon after every kill.

Pray tell how...

eg, from last night:
Press Q for Magic spell options, which show L for RMB (and character casts from Left Hand). Can cycle to LR to duel cast spell. Am sure I tried to cycle to show R, but that just defaulted to LMB.

Via the system configuration menus when you press esc. Somewhere there’s an option to configure the keyboard and what mouse button cast what. (Don't have the game open right now so can't be more precise.)

Even if you don't factor in the DLC, Bethesda has bigger plans for tweaking and enhancing Skyrim post-release than they have had for other big games they've released. The game was destined to be more organic. "We knew before release that we were going to support it in a larger way, with lots of updates every month," Howard said. "We knew we wanted to do more stuff to bring mods to people."

"So I think we had more of a plan and thought process of 'We want to make the game better after it's out.' We don't know what that means yet. People will tell us. But maybe we want to rebalance it. Maybe we want to add some features and patch them in, whereas in previous games, like Oblvivion or Fallout 3, our thinking was just to patch it, fix the big problems. Our bandwidth at that time was that we needed to work on Skyrim. But now, with the game's popularity, we really want to do all that stuff."

Some good stuff in there
