The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

I want to play through this again. Got about 150 hours on the Xbox version.

I was a warrior previously, can't remember what race.

Any suggestions on which combo to go for this time? Would like to stay using swords. :)

I started my new game last night after about a month off. I went with a Breton this time for the magic resistance as I felt the dragon priests would be a little easier this time around :p I'm also going to try a heavy warrior type character with mace and shield which is completely different from my last high elf mage.

Spent roughly 1 hour searching for and downloading some really nice but subtle graphical mods last night and got myself to the nearest town before calling it quits, this game still makes me say "oooh nice" :) loving it !

Indeed, Illusion is totally broken in the sense that almost every single enemy you come across you can either Fury, Fear or Calm, but you HAVE to perk it up to do so. One of the early Thieves Guild missions I basically turned the place into a warzone by spamming Fury on random enemies so there would be up to 6 NPCs killing each other and ignoring me as I ran around with an enchanted dagger :p

Since I've lost all those saves I may try a proper Alchemist/Illusionist/Thief next time. Using reverse pickpocket with poisons to kill/paralyze targets and illusion spells to avoid damage completely. I'll try to avoid using Destruction this time though.

I think what bugs me and is putting me off the PC Version is the sheer amount of mods you can get.

I honestly don't know where to start and I don't even know which ones I need. Wouldn't even have a clue how to install.

There is an excellent MOD thread here which pretty much covers everything! Like with everything, once you know what is what, its easy! :)

The only 2 that I use that I'd say you NEED are SkyUI and Categorised Favourites Menu because in true Bethesda style, the default versions are seriously lacking and in need of improvement. And both are easily installed with the Nexus Mod Manager. Graphics mods are still optional because you might not be all that bothered by it but those 2 UI mods simply cannot be debated as being an improvement.

Just installed SkyUI and CFM, cheers. :)

I'm thinking that I want to go 1 handed + shield with heavy armor.

What sort of race would be best to go for?

Cheers

I quite liked sword/shield combat but striking a balance isn't all that easy and as you smith up your gear you tend to just demolish everything later on and when the enemies take the leap in tier to Draugr Scourge levels you can easily get your ass handed to you earlier on.

Sword/shield is probably the best combat mechanic imo. IN my current playthrough though I am archer with dual-wielding, but using dual-wield parry mod, so one sword can block. I am not putting any perks in to block though I am just levelling it normally. It doesn't block anywhere near as much as a shield, but it is quite good, and much more fun as you can still do your dual-wield power attacks, also you get a neat little quick attack instead of bash. No chance of blocking any two-handed weapon atm though!

On second thoughts I'd really like to go dual wield. I'd need a mod for that then? I also chose Redguard. Wrong race for a dual wield playthrough?

I found i stopped blocking. I just.. forgot about it. So once i finished main quest i just swapped teh shield out for another 1h.

I didn't know you could dual wield as simple as that. :D

So guys did I make a mistake going redguard for dual wield or wont it really matter?

My specs are:

i5 2500
5850 1GB
8GB DDR3

I can run the game on ultra @ 1920X1080 and have a pretty constant 60FPS. Would I get much of a performance hit if I install the high res texture pack?

Cheers
