The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

So is this going to be complied for 64-bit systems for the PC version or are we still going to be limited by how much ram it's uses?

Bit suprised about how little we know considering the realise date is only a couple of weeks away!

Last I read, there won't be a 64bit executable. Admittedly, it said 'not at this time', but that's pretty much just dev speak for no.

Is anyone else a bit bothered that Skyrim only needs 6GB space? Considering it appears to have much improved on graphics/animations etc over Oblivion, it only uses an extra 1.6GB. What does that say for the amount of content?

Not at all - Just Cause 2 was about the same size and the environment was huge and diverse. Star Wars Unleashed was roughly 30Gb and had nothing to show for it. Depends how they have designed the game.

I cant really be arsed looking through the entire thread - but whats with all these random comments i keep hearing regarding it being fail on the PC?

Generally that the PC version will have no more content than what current gen consoles (and even controllers) are able to cope with, and current gen consoles are old. We can only speculate on exactly how much this has limited the potential of the game. It looks like it will be very good regardless.

Hmm i just checked the Steam page for this and i don't see any achievements listed :(. Will the page be updated with them near release or will it have none at all?

In what way was JC2 diverse, its an awesome, highly optimised, stupidly fast loading engine, no doubt, but diverse? Same villages, similar buildings/textures and massively reused tree textures, theres nothing wrong with it.

As always, design trumps power, you don't need 70gb's of textures to make a good looking game, but JC2 was also very same, repetitive and had its own draw backs, like being painfully easy, but it was still pretty damn fun to play and do stupid weird dives out of planes and back into planes and other random crap.

But I wouldn't really expect a RPG like Oblivion or, skyrim to be as samey in terms of enviroment and 6gb does sound incredibly small for a modern game.

mods = extra content = your point is invalid

True. However it would have been nice to see what modders could do with the game if the engine supported x64bit and DX11.;)

As a modder of MERP (oblivion total conversion) myself i can say that 64 bit support would have been excellent as we have run close to the 4gb(3gb) limit of the 32bit CS and oblivion applications, but thats a HUGE amount of content. DX11 not so much as theres a lot you can do with dx9 and 10 to make games look nice- check out OBGE with liquid water. ;)
believe me that the mods for skyrim will be even better then the ones for oblivion given time, and they won't need x64 or dx11 to do so :)

doesn't dx11 lt you do stuff that looks the same as 9 but for much less system resources/overhead though?

oh and update on the merp project :p

will it be out before the 24-25 of November as i have days booked off for then so will fill them with this if it is :p

People seem to want to find bad things with this game, its little wonder so few details are released to be honest. Its going to be a newer, bigger, prettier Oblivion in the case of the very worst possible scenario, sounds good to me.

Unfortunately consoles largely dictate the limits of the majority of games nowadays, most games are made with consoles in mind, but again I dont see that as a really bad thing. I think people have unrealistically decided that anything less than the absolute bleeding edge in terms of performance means a game wont be any good....I dont understand where this has come from.

yeah dx11 is good, but not necesarry :P
not much that to public would need to know regarding the merge as it is stillbeing fixed up (we're tired of waiting- and the time it takes to do it too :o), although theres some pretty cool news regarding heightmaps and a new tileset coming soon :) not too long though, so hopefulyl we can have it out the same time time as skyrim if none of us have anything drastic coming up.

I agree with this:cool:

You could post a list of awesome features and improvements in the game , but has one ambiguous statement in it which might possibly describe a part of the game which in their opinion isn't perfect(and isn't confirmed;)) and they will ignore all of the good news and focus on that:p
