The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announced

Also there was no such thing as 'decent gear' in Oblivion. With loot scaling there was never any enjoyment to be had in getting better gear. I actually play TES completely unarmored in nothing but a robe, gear doesnt bother me in the slightest bit about the games I enjoy playing (TES and Guild Wars).

It is all relative to the game though and the game is a challenging or easy as you make it or want it to be.

I can run around in full stealth gear and never take a hit by enchanting in an un-modded game.

Its a Steamworks game that will only work through Steam like Civ V / Total War, so yes.

Thanks for clarifying that :)

Now I need to get my broken PC actually working... 11 days is enough time :D

Has everyone pre ordered from steam? I'm considering paying the extra £5 more than most retail copies just so I can play the minute it comes out haha

Mod, please sort out all the above arguments over MMO's, it's unrelated and people are entitled to their own opinions. But if they wish to argue, can they please sod off to a new thread?

Regarding Skyrim... The more I read/look I become more and more excited!

If anything, it has made me read up more on the character development and it will be interesting to see how the more balanced and fluid skill development system works, removing the skill grind of Oblivion. I had only glanced over this previously.

Does anyone know if there is a point of no return though where if you leave the development of specific skills too long, you will never be able to get them up to spec. For example, if by level 20 I am well developed in fighting but have ignored magic, would I be able to get my magic attributes up sufficiently in a few more levels to a comparable point, were I to have been developing these from the start?

Exactly my point. Single player RPGs like TES can be played and modded however I want to play them. MMOs cant be.

You can level your skills at any time whenever you want.

Higher skill increases give you a bigger gain towards your next level, lower increases give you less.

So leveling Blade from 60-61 would give you more progress towards leveling than leveling Destruction from 30-31.

You will however want to specialize your skill perks that you gain each level into whatever playstyle you prefer. Not putting perks into magic and fully into fighting will still allow you to use Magic and vice versa, but whatever you put your perks into will become a lot more powerful.

E.G some of the magic perks reduce magicka costs by 50% on certain levels of spell - Novice, Apprentice, Master spell costs reduced by 50% are 3 seperate perks. Theres a perk in Restoration that makes all your spells 25% more effective. But you dont need to specialize in magic perks to use magic, you can take them in fighting and still level Destruction to 100 and cast high level spells, while having melee / armor perks.

Perks sound really interesting, will add to the game well I think. Also make characters even more unique. I liked them in Fallout 3/New Vegas.

Next month is going to be the biggest pain in the ass for me. Far to many games to play through. Sonic Generations will be out. I want to play that soooo much. Batman AC will be out REALLY REALLY want to play that. Then Skyrim which god damm I want to play !!!

So many games so little time :(

Yes, one thing thats also different is that signs and race that give maximum magicka increases are now gone:

High Elves have +25% Magicka regeneration
Bretons have Spell Absorption instead of Spell Resistance

Neither has a bonus to maximum magicka, and High Elves no longer get killed by just one spell hit (Wooot!).

So High Elves simply regenerate their Magicka faster at all times, Bretons absorb it from hostile spells cast on them (Like Atronach used to be minus stunted magicka, but you can no longer be a near invincible Breton Attronach with both 50% magic resistance and 50% spell absorption).

Magic power is now determined via the perks - the equivalent to Magicka increasing races and birthsigns in the previous games is now -50% spell cost perks, along with lots of others.

This means that any race can specialize as strong spellcasters now.

Sort it out and calm down guys otherwise you'll be getting a deserved break from the forums.

Man of the hour, thanks :)

Again, regarding Skyrim, does anyone know if the annoying poison arrow situation is still there.

I.e. Will I have to place a pot of poison on a single arrow and re do this for each time I wish to fire an arrow. Or will I be able to do the whole quil or a number of arrows?

My current (almost 30 hours now, ditched my previous 124 hour char) character (Kajit for her night time eyes) is a sneaky bow user, no magic at all, all based on alchemy for health pots, bows for distance, sneak and blade for close encounters.

One thing I hate in Oblivion is that poisons almost have no use at all... So I end up making a ton then selling them on, where as being a bow user I could pick my poisons for certain tasks.

Thats a good question regarding poisons only working on single arrows (annoying horribad).

You should really ask that on the official forums so it gets some serious discussion.

Mind linking me to them and I shall create a thread regarding it.

I would have just modded it out like I did with my first char, which was a battle mage (god that class was fun, summon, stand back, spam AOE spells, run in and slice away :D).

But sadly, I now play on consoles... Can't afford a nice PC and enjoy my sofa sitting looking at a 50" plasma too much now! lol. Still, if I had the option, a PC would be it.

Annoying yes, but not much of a problem.

Kind of makes the stealing items a once off every now and then to boost money.

Target a rich ponces house after following around, sneak in one night, go nuts, take everything. Sell to fence that night, instant 1000+ coin :)

Tis what I do, previously with my old char I just did the dupe cheat.
