The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Neither Midas Magic nor Balanced Magic are finished (two most popular mods affecting magic in Skyrim) and haven't been updated for a long time (7th Feb and 10th Dec accordingly).

You can still benefit from most mods covered in this post, and if you're looking for anything specific, just let me know.

Depending on what type of a mage you're planning on rolling, you might want to look into playing a battlemage with heavy armour and get a mod for that.

Some nice mods covered in this video:

Deadly Spell Impacts is certainly a little mod that will enlighten your gameplay, too. :)

Also, check these two links out:

Magic - Spells

You might just dig something that we'll all like!

I am using better magic for my game, but tbh I am not planning on using much magic for this playthrough, just gonna dabble a bit. The thing I have noticed so far is that I have levelled destruction quicker than previously.

Haven't played Skyrim in awhile and I tried looking for an answer on this but couldn't find anything.

Anyone with ENB SSAO mods in know if they fixed the texture transparency issue?, I really liked the ssao but first person weapons would go transparent like a ghost when close to a wall etc. It was a issue in ENB itself, can't find if they fixed it or not.

Can anyone give me an opinion on the More Dynamic Shadows and Stripping Fixed mod?

Also, what are some ini tweaks to achieve similar level of shadows quality in this game?

Really didn't like it, combined with realistic lighting it looked absolutely horrible. whites were blinding and outside looked completely washed out for me. Reading the comments on one mods page(can't remember which one), it seems to be a common complaint. IT was simple enough to just turn of and on with NMM though., so

The only ini tweak I did for shadows was to stop the really jagged edges I was getting(was very annoying). The best method I found was increasing iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3 to 16, which just blurs them a bit.

btw, what is shadow striping? ...I see lots of people mention it but can't actually find an example of what it is. I downloaded the shadow striping fix straight off, tbh just because it had the word 'fix' in it;), but I don't notice anything different with/without it.

Thanks. Well I am still getting that a bit but tbh I barely notice it, so haven't really bothered with it. The one problem I do have is a kind of pattern I find on outside objects which I would like to sort out. There seems to be stripes on some surfaces(could be anything, rocks, walls, houses) which disappear as you get closer to them. It can be quite off-putting. Anyone experienced this?

Yeah all the Omegared armour shown in the vid is top stuff, I am using the Ranger armour for my Bosmer archer character atm.

PS. Height adjusted races is great...however as a Bosmer you barely reach peoples waists! No wonder my intimidation attempts never work.... and no amount of speech skill is gonna help that!

I am still getting that artifacting... I don't know if it is a specific piece of armour/weapon or what. I have seen it happen with 3 different NPC types- Mercenary, Blackbriar Mercenary and bodyguard. Only happens when they are on screen, you can stand right next to them and look away and the game is fine.

I think what I will do is the next time I see one, I will get close and check out their inventory, to see if there is a common item that is doing it.

Hey is there a mod which allows you to put armour/clothes on as aesthetics over your combat armour? (A bit like the system used in Terraria).

Is there also a mod which makes it look like you are not wearing a helmet but you are?

Been looking on Skyrim Nexus but no luck so far.

edit: Found a perk which balances armour for when not wearing a helmet and allows perks to work with no helmet. Also found a mod which gives you an invisible circlet so you can still apply enchantments.
Armour Perks for No Helmets
Hide Circlet - A NO HELMET MOD

or even better an actual mod which makes helmets invisible YAY!

Invisible Helmets

Still looking for a mod which allows you to put armour over another for aesthetics.

I have an i5 2500, 8GB DDR3 and a 5850 1GB. I can run the game on pretty much full max settings with a constant 60FPS.

I installed the high res texture pack and this stole about 20FPS from me in places. Is the high res texture pack really that much more demanding?

Cheers

If it is just for appearance, there are lots of new armours which are very good. These armour pack have some very good one in them(i use them both)-

The second one in particular has some very nice armours, which sound like what you are after

Funny how so many mods say "lore friendly". For example the "Lore Friendly Armor Pack". Woman in a bra... that is part of TES lore? :)

I'm currently trying Hedge Knight and Vanguard Armour by hothtrooper44. I really like the Hedge Knight armour but the 1st person view is a bit disappointing, gauntlets don't look so good.

It will be that your GPU's vram of 1gb is getting eaten up by the requirements of the HD texture pack, causing your HDD to start loading the textures and thus reducing performance by a large deal.

It's not that your system isn't 'powerful' enough per se, rather you are running out of overhead to load the texture in a timely manner. Turning off Aero might help, as that natively eats anywhere from 50-100mb of vram.

Ah, makes sense. I don't really mind turning the HD Texture pack off as I still think Skyrim looks great even without it. :)

One thing I do notice though, when looking out into a large landscape, I can't see any trees etc in the distance. Is their a mod I can get that would improve this?

Cheers
