The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

If it is just for appearance, there are lots of new armours which are very good. These armour pack have some very good one in them(i use them both)-

The second one in particular has some very nice armours, which sound like what you are after

The only issue I have with armour and weapon packs is that they're often unbalanced and have stats issues.

That and duplicates making other stuff obsolete.

Ah, makes sense. I don't really mind turning the HD Texture pack off as I still think Skyrim looks great even without it. :)

One thing I do notice though, when looking out into a large landscape, I can't see any trees etc in the distance. Is their a mod I can get that would improve this?

Cheers

Use the Bethesda Optimised textures listed in my guide. The Hybrid 2048+1024 and Vanilla Maps should be fine. Read the mod's description, you will have to disable the High Resolution pack and

Another tip, use lower resolution textures when you install any mods. 2K should be fine, use that or 1K for larger ones.

And the last thing, BSA files are compressed, loose files aren't, so I recommend the former to reduce VRAM usage a little.

Disabling Aero is an excellent tip too for any GPU demanding games.

There is already too much to do! ...though it will be nice to play in a new area if there is one.

I am still hopeful for an expansion in one of the other provinces. I think (after Morrowind) Elsweyr would be my preferred choice. I find myself wanting more Khajit in the game.

^^ I am not messing with my mods for now, as I have it just how I want it and don't want to mess it up for now;)

Where can I find your guide?

WIP, not much done atm. I tried it a few months back and it shows promise, but lets be honest, it is never going to have the quality(or the lore for that matter) of an official dlc;).

Though saying that, the quality of mods such as this is greatly improving with Skyrim.

Would be a shame really if they announced a dlc taking place in Elsweyr, after the work they have put in to that.

I don't recall Bethesda ever expanding their games to such a degree. We're more likely to see some features from the previous announcements, just look at the DLC they're rolling out as an exclusive for Xbox now, nothing to be bothered with really.

Hopefully there won't be another gimmick of the "horse armour" size.

Just make sure to disable High Resolution textures DLC if you use that, it's in the mod's description.

Thanks - A bit confused. I deleted the High Res texture pack (official one) last night. Do I need to install it again in order for the Hybrid one to function or can I just leave it off?

Cheers

No need for the official DLC, the mod includes optimised textures and vanilla maps already.

Well they have previously said that they will release proper expansion-type dlc, and going by Shivering Isles, which was fairly large(not really that far off Morrowind size) I am hopeful for one dlc which adds a decent sized new area.

I also wouldn't complain about a return to Imperial city in some kind of carriage fast-travel way. I think the game needs a nice large city to explore

I'm always confusing DLC with proper expansion packs. :o

I think it's safe to assume that High Rock or Hammerfall are more likely but these are huge and diverse lands and I highly doubt they'd take on any of them for the price of a DLC.

You are probably right that High Rock and Hammerfell are more likely. Another thing to consider, is do you think these lands could carry a whole game? Skyrim, Morrowind, cyrodil all have more distinct 'feels' to them, if you know what I mean, which you can base an entire game on. Personally I am not too sure that HighRock especially, and Hammerfell to a lesser extent are exciting enough locations for new games, and would maybe suit an expansion more(btw, I realise they were both in previous games;))

For secondary stuff, should I select Hi-Res or Vanilla?

Cheers

EDIT - What about the vanilla characters, dragons, effects and trees? Should they be installed on a card with 1GB VRAM?

It depends on the mod. Like I said in my previous post, BSA files are slightly more compressed, disabling Aero will reduce the memory requirements even further. As for the size of textures, choose Lite for most, 1K or 2K depending on what they replace.

Use SMAA instead of MSAA or FXAA. You'll find the injector by googling it.

In the STEP guide I linked to a few posts above, there are two programs that optimise uncompressed textures to improve performance and loading times, you might do that after all steps, if you find your PC struggling with textures.
