The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

No one has a fix for the awful shadows then?:(

In SkyrimPrefs.ini these are the values you want to change for shadows. Here are mine:

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=32
fInteriorShadowDistance=4000.0000
fShadowDistance=3000.0000
iShadowMapResolutionSecondary=4096
iShadowMapResolutionPrimary=4096
iShadowMapResolution=4096

The shadows look pretty good, though outside you can see the shadows get drawn as you move about. I like my shadows soft, hence the iBlurDeferredShadowMask=32, if you want sharp shadows set it at 3... ish. :)

Thank you Fanatic, shadows look a lot better outside now, so gonna leave them on :)

Got a picture of my girl with her bum covered :D

You could benefit from Immersive HUD. :)

iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3 is the default preset, I don't know if it goes all the way up to 32 but I'm fairly confident that you would benefit from much sharper shadows.

With that said, values like 0-2 shouldn't be used unless you use very high resolution shadows, 8192 or so. General rule is to use lower setting with 4096 or 8192 and higher values with lower resolution, to blur the shadows and hide the blockiness of shadows.

fShadowDistance=3000.0000 -> 4000 - medium distance, higher resolution (High Preset); 8000 - far distance, lower resolution (Ultra Preset).

fInteriorShadowDistance=4000.0000 -> default is 3000 and this shouldn't be changed.

Cheers mate. Do these shadows have much of a hit on performance though?

Yes.

iBlurDeferredShadowMask doesn't but I don't recommend using such high values.

fSunShadowUpdateTime=0
fSunUpdateThreshold=2.0

These entries should be added to Skyrim.ini under Display in order to remove the effect of shadows popping up at short distance.

I had to use 32 to get rid of blocky shadows. It was one of the first things I did, it looks much better for me.

I have just added a few magic mods to my game, as I might use a bit of magic. I already had Better Magic to level magic a bit better, but now I have added Battlemages Arcane and be a better mage, which both add loads of spells. I haven't played for long, but so far the new spells seem interesting, but I wait to see if they might be overpowered or not. One for example, gives you quicker stamina regen for 300 seconds(2/sec for 300 sce). I like the idea, but 300 seconds is a bit too long. You can basically cast it whenever you want and forget about it for 5 minutes!

I've just reinstalled Skyrim after a break and started from scratch. I've added a load of mods that seem to work fine, but I've just experienced something odd. I've just levelled up from 1 to 2 and after selecting Health, the menu wouldn't change. I selected Health another 2 times before it allowed me to choose my perks. At this point I was now at level 4 with 3 perks to choose from! Also, whenver I created something on a forge I gained 15 levels of smithing!

I've turned all the mods off, reloaded but get the same result. Any ideas?

One of your mods is not compatible with the changes they made to skills in patch 1.5. The mod could very well have broken some values. You would need to play with no mods until you level up again.

Or work out which mod affects talents, perks or crafting skills and remove it before starting a new game.

Well i just hit lvl 50, done everything there is to do, appart from killing dragons and joining in some War in Skyrim battles i am about done with my thief now :(.
Added a few more bits and pieces like balanced magic and that Hide UI mod so might start a run through as a mage or something

Trying to get that realistic lighting mod working, it just puts my game to desktop with no error message after the intro, tried it on its own and at the bottom of my modlist

Thats a bizarre glitch. I'd just clean install tbh and make sure you use the most updated mods.
