The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

It is the shadow draw distance. The larger the distance the further away shadows are drawn. However the larger the distance the worse the shadows look. So you have to balance shadow distance vs quality.

In SkyrimPrefs.ini: fShadowDistance=3000.0000

You could set that to 6000. That would double distance they are drawn at, but halve the quality.

I think :).

I have been trying out some village mods today and some of them are quite good. Primby, Elvenwood, Blackmoor and Fleetford are all very good and fit in well in the environment.

OH and another mods which I would say is essential for your list Krugga- Realistic Ragdolls and Force. Couldn't play without it now!

My mods list is actually missing quite a few mods that I use and aren't listed there yet. Realistic Ragdolls and Force is surely something that I always install.

I'd like this guide to be community friendly, rather than something that's to my taste, so feel free to add your own suggestions. :)

I'll try and get the list updated today, I'm quite overloaded with my own work and the little spare time I have is spent on testing out some other mods.

With that in mind, could anyone tell me how they like Economics of Skyrim and if it's good enough to add to the list already? Also, are there any known mods that conflict with it?

Do the 2k texture packs require the official ones installed? Just wondering because I installed the FULL Dungeon, misc and towns and went for the lite terrain package and all seems fine.

Cheers

No, they do not require the High Resolution Textures DLC.

Skyrim HD 2K do not replace all textures though, so you'll be left with a mix of high and low resolution textures.

Is it something that would be noticeable though? Can't say for myself it has been... Everything looks great and seems to run fine.

What is the recommend way to install 2k textures then or is their only one way?

Cheers

Yes, especially on close ups.

Then why do you ask?

Either manually copy the files over to Skyrim/Data/Textures or use NMM to install them.

Aargh! Got that damn Elemental Fury sound bug that I have had on all previous playthroughs...very annoying. Gonna have to find the sound file and replace it I fear.

Amazed they haven't fixed this bug yet

One thing I've noticed since using 2K Textures, when I enter a city for the first time from a fast travel, my FPS will drop about 10 less than usual.

If I walk to another part of the city and back to the start of it, FPS goes back to being perfect.

Is this just because of the textures getting loaded or something?

I've destroyed night vision in my game but I have no idea what mod has done it. I'm disappointed because I'm playing as a vamp with this char and it kinda takes away the atmosphere when using a torch all the time.

When using it the screen goes blurry at the sides like normal, but the lighting doesn't change so the game remains dark.

Are you using any ENB configs or injectors for that matter?

Yes.

Guys so the best way to go about things when it comes to textures is:

1. Download the free Bethesda hi-res texture pack & install it
2. Install Skyrim HD mod

Is that right? Because right now I only have the Skyrim HD installed.

Thanks :D

AFAIK, Not all 3rd party HD Texture packs require the official Beth DLC. For example, 2K and Bethesda Optimized don't.

Cheers. It's a non-issue but would a GFX Card with more VRAM fix it?

Cheers

In an unlikely even that it would, it would not be common. There are many factors affecting the textures being loaded on demand and going from one grid to another will always cause some delay.

HRT DLC is not without faults.

With that said, it replaces many textures with higher resolution ones that other mods don't.

There's a mistake in my guide, the Standalone 1024 textures do not require the official DLC pack but the other two do. Don't think there's a need to disable them in data files any more either since Skyrim 1.526 treats the load order differently (loose files are loaded as the last).
