The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Anyone here on a 5850? If so what sort of video settings do you use?

I usually get a constant 60FPS, but it annoys the hell out of me when my FPS dips to about 50 because of the Vsync in game... Gives me split seconds of choppyness.

I have been trying out some village mods today and some of them are quite good. Primby, Elvenwood, Blackmoor and Fleetford are all very good and fit in well in the environment.

OH and another mods which I would say is essential for your list Krugga- Realistic Ragdolls and Force. Couldn't play without it now!

Does anyone here play with Vsync off? I'm sick of getting lag spikes when my FPS drops below 60... Makes it feel like I'm only getting 25fps when the microstutter happens.. :(

I drop to mid 20s in Markarth!

It has been much better for me since the patches though. It used to be unplayable in cities, and would drop down to 10-20. Now I generally get 50-60 outside of towns and 40-50 inside of towns(with occasional drops). ....I just put up with it

It's just the mili seconds of lag spikes that annoy me. I play on all high settings (4x aa 12x af) and I never get lag in cities, mainly 60fps always. Using the optimized DLC Pack.

It's outside in the open I notice this mainly... Just when my FPS dips below 60 I get a stutter of lag...Minimal but really annoys me. So it is normal?

Realistic. Much better for archery at least....When you hit someone it doesn't have the same impact as Unrelenting force!

As for texture mods, I just followed STEP. Most of the replacement textures do not affect FPS at all and make a big difference.

I tried 2k textures earlier on and with my 5850 they just affected performance to much. Towns were fine but out in the open I dropped to 40fps which is unbearable with vsync. I think a card with 2GB VRAM would help a lot.

So I went back to high res dlc optimized. :) Still looks fantastic!

After getting bored on the PS3 version, I thought I'd buy it on PC and try the modding. The game runs fine on high on my laptop (i7, 555M, 4gb, etc.) but will the mods make it run slow? Mostly wanting to use updated textures, etc.

It just totally depends on the MOD and what the MOD does to be honest. Only thing you can do is run them and see if they have any affect on performance.
