The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Been following S.T.E.P and have BOSS and WYRE installed, I have a lot of mods in a folder and don't know what to do with them?

Where should I extract them to?

Doesn't S.T.E.P tell you what to do with them? Never used it myself.

If the mods are in the correct structure then I'd use Nexus Mod Manager to install them. Maybe tell us what the mods are.

NMM isn't working on my PC. So i'm using WYRE.

I'm not using any yet, just downloading mods from step guide.

For example, I have extracted a mod and i'm left with a DATA folder, do copy the folder into SKYRIM data, or its contents ie copy and paste the esps into the destination folder?

Well each mod is different really. Some may need just the .esp, some just the data, some both. Some might have many different options of which you only install some of the data and 1 of the .esp files. You need to read the readme files to see how to install each mod.

Easiest is to use NMM for it's scripted installs, if you can get it working. Not used WYRE myself so can't really help with that.

What errors/problems do you have with NMM?

It was some kind of conflict error with an old install it seemed to me, despite wiping everything NMM related several times. I can't remember exact details tbh.

I'm going to give NMM another go.

Ok, do I copy files etc over to data first, then use NMM?

I can't remember the process I used last time.

Well hopefully each mod is a separate .rar file. In NMM you click Add Mod From File, then choose the mod you want to install.

Yeah, I have kept them all separate this time, I know there's combiners out there.

Yeah, I recall the adding mods in NMM bit. But do I do this after I have copied and pasted the neccesary files/folders into skyrim/data?

So ive just purchased the legendary edition in the steam sales but cant be arsed to read 100+ pages on this thread.

Can anyone give a run down on modding the game. What? Where? How? When?

Thanks in advance.

I downloaded all the mods I wanted over the last few days(well updated mostly, as I already had most of them), and got round to sorting everything out yesterday, but I was getting crashes on start-up(or more specifically, during the intro, just after loading), and I just could not work out what was wrong!....I spent ages testing things, reading up on everything etc, but was drawing a blank everywhere.
Whilst I am hardly an expert, I do pretty much know what I am doing with this, and it was driving me mad...In the end, on a hunch I checked to see if I was subscribed to any mods in Steam Workshop, and it turns out that I was subscribed to all of the 'unofficial patches' through Steam(the thinking behind that being that it never hurts to have the most up-to-date one), and one other(dynamic fires). I unsubscribed to them, and re-downloaded them from Nexus...and it works perfectly now! ....Strange problem, though I never really understood how Steam Workshop works anyway tbh, does it just download all the files including optionals?

Think I will stay away from Steam Workshop from now on!

One never download and add lots of mods add a few at a time that way you know what is more or less causing your problem

Two use a tool called boss to scan your mods for problems and then clean them Boss will show you how been a while since I used it last

Yeah I do all that, the problem was literally just the few mods I had subscribed to on Steam Workshop. I had over 100 mods already downloaded that I used last time I played, and was lost trying to work out why they didn't work together anymore!

PS...my philosophy is much more akin to 'add as many you possibly can at the same time, then work out what is wrong if it doesn't work';)

Go home player, you're drunk. :p
