The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I have a mod question for you fellas in the know...

Looking at ESO I like the idea of crafting a mage staff, having varying levels/damage/attributes etc. Is there a similar mod I could get for Skyrim?

Getting a tad bored of my board and sword guy and fancy going down some decent magic paths. Something like this would be excellent!

If you level up your enchanting to 100 you then then put two different attributes on the staff.

Isn't this already in SKSE?

Think the command is ClearInvalidRegistrations ?

Its automatically turned on, so when you save or load a game (Can't remember which) it auto clears?

Apparently not:

No, not really.

The SKSE setting acts ONLY on orphaned scripts that have registered updates, and even in that case only on the very specific instances of RegisterForUpdate() and RegisterForUpdateGameTime(). All SKSE does is safely unregister those updates. The scripts remain attached to the save file after that, they just stop burning cycles on abandoned scripts. The downside of course is that if a vanilla script gets itself into an endless registration SKSE won't do anything about it since it isn't considered abandoned.

This tool here would eliminate the need to bother with the SKSE setting since this tool will remove the entire script from the save whether it's supposed to be updating or not. I've already had it rip one such scenario from my oldest save that became bogged down with dozens of never ending loops caused by a bug in the Auriel's Bow sun scripts. Just sitting there burning cycles forever - but no more.

I just wish there was a tool that could remove/repair/reset broken quests (not the same as broken scripts apparently)

Save game script cleaner
updated
http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/?

Will add to list now

1. Click open, choose a save game file.

2. Click a "Fix all #->" button to remove all scripts, that are detected as orphan.
It can take a while if there is lots of them.

3. Click "FixScriptInstances", it removes all orphan script instances.

4. Push Save button -> overwrite.. -> yes (only if you have a backup)
Load a save in game, and save it again. Now it should be fully cleaned.
Re-saving removes script names etc.

Well this is indeed a mighty thread. I'll just cut to the chase and hope someone takes pity on me.

I own Oblivion and Skyrim and haven't played either yet, however I think the time has come. Does it matter which you do first?

I've got an R290 with 4GB RAM so it should be able to handle a few mods. Not looking to be beta testing or pushing the envelope for novelty - which are the solid, recommended ones to use for enhanced eye candy and playability?

Thank you!

Doesn't really matter which but playing oblivion first will probably result in noticing less the visual quality compared to skyrim and help to familiarise with some aspects of the world theme which are better introduced in oblivion than skyrim.

I've only just bought Skyrim, so at the moment am just playing through (all settings maxed out) with nothing added bar the official HD pack from Bethesda. I'll start thinking about adding mods on my second play through with a new character or when I've got some time invested in the game.

To be honest, I would add some basic mods now before you start to play. You don't have to go crazy but adding some graphic ones would really change the game for you.

For example, I would install the Towns and Villages Enhanced, Sounds of Skyrim, Vivid Landscapes, SIMM , Shyrim HD 1.5 addons, Lanterns of Skyrim. I would also choose a lightning mod of your choice. :p

I recommend using Mod Organizer to install them with. Just these few would really change the game.

You can use Steamworks to install some of these mods, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Hey all,

I'm just in the process of modding Skyrim up before I play it for the first time. I'm not totally new to modding as I've done plenty on Fallout:New Vegas, but the difference there was I'd already played through most of the game before I decided to mod it and haven't been bothered (yet) to start again.

So I want to get Skyrim sorted out before I play it this time for the best experience. Got a few questions though. Does running via SKSE disable steam tracking + achievements?

I run SKSE and still get achievements.
It does skip the skyrim launcher though, so you wont get updates to any mods you have subscribed to through steam.

The only time I loose achieve tracking is when using the console.

Also, if steam isn't running and you use the SKSE shortcut. It launches steam but doesn't launch skyrim. I think its a timing issue, so makes sue to start steam first.

Cheers, sounds like it won't be a problem (except for the same thing as New Vegas - need to exit and restart after using console)...

When you launch via SKSE does it still load as if under Steam (i.e. Steam recognises you are playing Skyrim)?

After "finishing" the game on xbox 360, i've decided to buy the game again as i'm building my first gaming pc and loved the game.
I traded in some games and got the hard copy of it from a store, so im guessing achievements won't be on there?
Looking forward to delving into the storyline again, and obviously smithing 2849472 iron daggers!

Achievements should be fine - it's a Steamworks title so the retail copy will associate itself with Steam when you install it

Update on my situation: It looks like acheivements won't be affected by mods or SKSE. I must have been confused because when I modded New Vegas the combination of NVSE and the 4Gb patched launcher meant for me that Steam didn't recognise that New Vegas was running and I didn't get any achievements or register play-time for it...

SKSE seems to actually launch the game via Steam still, so hopefully no problems there.

I've installed a pretty big collection of mods plus the Serentity ENB and quite happy with how it's turned out so far :p

ah nice, thats great, nice little goals to aim for.

looking forward to trying out some new mods, not sure how my rig will cope with it all as it is all still in boxes haha, but hopefully itl take at least a few graphics mods and sound enhancements etc.

and obviously smithing 2849472 iron daggers!

I think that's been fixed now.

For example, I have a mod that allows me to craft Hadhafang - Arwen's sword from LOTR, if you have enough gold ingots and stuff.

I found the blacksmith in whiterun had 7 gold ingots for sale at random, and despite being only about level 15 I bought the lot, and crafted me a Hadhafang, and then smithed it up.

Crafting it got me 1 level increase in blacksmithing, and smithing it got me another level up :)

Seems to now be based on the difficulty or expense of the item involved that you're crafting, giving a greater reward.

Currently playing as a stealthy Moggy, just getting to the point where I'm really feeling like I'm actually stealthy now! :p
