The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Hey guys does anyone have any decent mods for the shouts? Can they be improved any? I always felt they're a little weak.

I had a look around riften and there are spots with repeating textures like your screenshot, i am using cabals landscape textures 1k with vivid landscape performance on top so it dont look to bad :)

dont think there is much you can do but you could try Unique Grasses and Groundcovers http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/42370/?. Maybe that will help if its not in your load order :)

Ahhhhhhh YESSSS, not just me. It's the game.

ACES, thanks mate, that's an annoyance I can let rest. I will try a few mods, including the one you suggested to see if I can smoothen it out, but I guess it's an old game and some things will simply just have to look dated.

I might get into modding and create a grass mod, where open spaces like that have smaller but covering grass so it's not such a simple and plain tile texture on the floor.

Annoying, but at least it's something I will have to get used to.

EDIT: Also, a commandment to this game... I've put in over 100 hours in on the 360 and now just over 110 hours in on the PC version... And pushing more! As my new character, I'm absolutely in love with. An illusion thief/assassin. God it's fun!

Anyway, I've never passed the main quest line after the first few quests simply to kick off the dragons. Last night, my girlfriend was playing and she was attacked by Cultists... I never even knew they existed and their armour is awesome.

Anyway, it just makes me laugh that even though I've poured hundreds of hours into this game, I'm still learning.

Something I've just remembered, I remember ages ago I used some sort of mod that balanced out all the weapon mods I had. It basically made things fair. So for example, the JaySuS sword mod I have, gives VERY powerful weapons over the vanilla stuff and immersive weapons.

I was wondering if anyone knows a way to balance the weapon mods out?

Not to be a smart ass, but I said it was probably just the way the game is quite a few posts ago ;)

Have you tried any of the existing mods which add grass? lush grass + trees, grass on steroids, realistic grass?

Which monitor is it? Upgrading to a 34 inch 21:9 panel soon and read reports that its hard to get skyrim to work with it properly at the 3440x1440 res.

29" LG, I changed the skyrimpref.ini to set the resolution at 2560x1080 and then I use Flawless Widescreen to fix all the issues with SkyUI (normal UI) & FOV etc.

By all means, be a smart arse :P I just needed proof haha.

And yes, I'm using grass on steroids, but I think I'll look into others as well.

Thanks chap.

Wyrmstooth
Moonpath To Elsweyr
Falskaar(with additions like Island fast travel to go between Wymstooth, Solstheim and Falskaar easily)
Sea of Ghosts
Fight Against The Thalmor series

These I have played and can recommend. I haven't played it in 6 months+ though, so try sorting Nexus for Quest and Adventures(Top 100, then you get a pull down menu of categories) for more recent ones and just go by endorsements.

Can confirm also this works a treat for running 21:9. At first you think just the ini tweak is enough but then you realise your inventory and menus are missing bits, unless you use Flawlwess Widescreen.

Cheers, should I just chuck them in from start?

Also is the "interesting people" mod worth it for the minor quests?

Best to put them in from the start. It isn't essential, but it is best to touch your game as little as possible once you have started. Don't forget to search for the kids do individually as well, as there are addons for them too. Falskaar in particular has some good ones. Falskaar and Wyrmstooth add pretty large new Islands to the game, and you can get mods that do things like add boats that travel between them, new signposts etc.

Interesting people is well worth it. Adds so much to the game. Might seem insignificant, but it is almost essential imo. It is a massive dl though.

Cheers bud, "kids do individually" what's that?

I'll download them overnight and activate next time I play.

I asked in another thread, is there a mod so when you try new equipment on in the inventory screen it shows your character so you can see what they look like?

Hmm Interesting NPCs looks really good, shame I'm already 100 hours into a game and don't want to mess it up :( Also kinda wishing I'd installed the various new-lands in case I wanted to play them. Ah well

There might be a mod for it, but what I normally do is press "F" or use the mouswheel to go into 3rd person and then just angle the camera in such a way that I can see my character before I open the inventory screen... It's not quite the same but works for me ;)

It only adds, it doesn't modify anything so you should be fine. The only mods I would worry about it affecting are ones that change settlements(Cities and Towns Expanded etc). I know it adds a new outside store to Morthal for example, so if you have something that changes Morthal it might conflict(but it would only be monor and would still be fine). It is also very heavy on memory apparently. Best to check the compatibility section on the mod's page.

It is a really great mod. One of the best. The way they have tied it in with the main game and quests is quite brilliant. For example, whilst going along the main quest path(or any really) you will meet NPCs from this mod that have things to say about what you are doing and things that have happened in the world. It makes a lot of difference.

Any other recomendations for bits and peices that are worth adding on whilst I'm at then?

Thanks for the help btw, much appreciated.

This is a very handy run-down of some mods that change and add to the game. They are all in categories for easy reference and you will find lots of small mods(bits and pieces) that make little changes.

In terms of gameplay and the general world I would personally recommend:

Racemenu- Massively redesigns the race menu for a lot more customizastion
Convenient Horse- Essential, and very well-made mod
UFO- Overhauls companions with a lot more customization and options
Better Fast Travel- Carriages and Ships. Adds carriages and ships to pretty much every location you could want. And a MCM entry to allow you to change prices.
Hroldan Nightgate and Sawmill Villages- Creates villages around some of the smaller areas. Really good for immersion.
Expanded Town and Cities- Does the same and is compatible with the above mod.
Snowbound Acres- Nice little village
With Interesting NPCs added to these you can create a really nice world that seem a lot more alive than vanilla.

Also, if you want NPCs to look a little better without looking like anime characters, I always use Windsong's stuff. It is the best out ther imo

It tend to go more for gameplay adding mods than graphics tbh

Is it relatively straightforward to transfer a game save + the relevant installed mods to another pc with skyrim on it? I was quite deep in the game on my laptop ...would be nice if i could transfer the save ok.

Though its 2 save files an .ess and a .skse save files

I only have 10 mods installed should be easy to just download and put them in same load order as before with NMM yeah?

-> 1) Update.esm
(2 -> 2) hideout.esm
(3 -> 3) Ish's Souls to Perks.esp
(4 -> 4) Lost Art of the Blacksmith.esp
(5 -> 5) SkyUI.esp
(6 -> 6) BlackSacramentArmor.esp
(7 -> 7) BlackSacramentDBReplacer.esp
(8 -> 8) Cloaks.esp
(9 -> 9) hideout.esp
(10 -> 10) potions_poisons_0_1.esp
(11 -> 11) Sinister Shadowmere.esp
(12 -> 12) Sinister Shadowmere poison damage.esp
(13 -> 13) Proserpine_companion.esp
(14 -> 14) CerwidenCompanion.esp
(15 -> 15) EMCompViljaSkyrim.esp

Though...seeing all those very lovely looking screenshots makes me want to try some graphical/better looking enhancement mods now that i have my new pc :)

Sssshhhh stop tempting me to install more mods :D I already did a complete re-install of the mods I already had a little while ago and have finally got everything working really nice and stable...
