The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

You've installed SkyUI, SKSE or both incorrectly. Or you're forgetting to run the game by logging into Steam then double clicking skse_loader.exe.

OK I am totally confused. I have had Skyrim for a month or so but have been waiting to get a new graphics card to play it. I just installed my 6950 and now I have no idea what mods to install to make everything look awesome.

So far I have the HD Textures and the Realistic Water Textures. What other ones would people recommend for a first run through the game. Rather than gameplay I am looking for graphics updates. I am a little confused what all the mods do and how they relate and work with each other.

For example I have seen mods that update the building textures, but wouldn't the HD mod already do that?

Any help would be appreciated.

Well fella, you have to read through the mods information read me to see what they replace, for example Skyrim HD has water changes in it with same file names as the Realistic water mod, so its best to either delete the water files before moving the folder in or install and then overwrite the files when installing the big water mod. I understand the clothing mod also now has files that Sky HD also changes. Being textures it isn't so much an issue as it shouldn't break anything if you overwrite (it might on the water one), its just down to tastes to which you prefer. Just like Oblivion theres no easy route to installing mods, if your going to install multiple replacements you need to be prepared to read through the info before installing etc.

Nexus mod manager can make it easy as if something screws up you can just use that to remove the mod instead of manually deleting files.

It's always best to read up on the mods and as a rule of thumb, big mods come first.

Skyrim HD is one of the first to install since you will be overwriting a lot of it with other mods and make sure that it doesn't overwrite other mods on updates.

You probably will not need Tesval or Skyboost after 1.4. Although you can keep an eye on the Skyboost thread on the Bethesda forums to see if they squeeze more optimizations in.

Not got the beta patch yet, waiting on the official. And even then I think I won't get it straight away. Until most the mods have updates for 1.4. :)

I have it set not to update automatically, and it seems to remember the setting, unless you start Skyrim using the Skyrim Launcher. After that the auto update is back on. Launching with SKSE keeps the auto update off. I think. I hope. :)

Hrm Better Sorting and Categorised favourites are supposed to be compatible, but the categorised favourites doesn't pick up the potions for some reason and dumps them in Other... Am I missing something?

Not played Skyrim for a month but wanted to continue.

I just installed NNM for the first time, it requests to make the ini files not read only any more, do oyu guys accept this or leave them read only? Isnt it bad to leave them writable as the game can undo any tweaks?

Also, just updated to the beta 1.42 and then tried skse so I could use the SKyUI but when I run skse_loader.exe the screen goes black as if it is loading but then goes back to desktop. Ive tried running as administrator and in various compatibility modes. Any ideas?

I havent played skyrim for like a month since starting new job and meeting someone at same time, I'm probably around level 29 and I've decided to get back into the game today, I've just updated to 1.4 and it didnt help with the fps, the game runs fine accept for in some towns it goes down to 15fps for some strange reason...I installed skyboost but hasnt made the slightest difference, do you reckon tesval would work if I tried that or are they both the same?

I followed the instructions for skyboost "Copy "dinput8.dll" and "SkyBoost.asi" from "bin" folder to Skyrim dir" but it defo hasnt increases my fps in those areas where the fps drops.

Also it says in the options "In order to run SkyBoost your CPU must support SSE2" and I'm not sure if my CPU supports SSE2, I have a "AMD athlon ll X3 445 processor 3.10GHZ" with 4gb ram and windows 7.

I was hoping they would have fixed these fps issues by now.

It should only change the files in the Appdata not the ones in my documents. It needs them open so it can put mod esp names in the plugin.txt so the game loads them.

You don't need them cpu mods anymore since 1.4 essentially does the same things they did. Tesval is old, don't use it, Skyboost is the successor to it. The Skyboost dev is waiting for 1.4 patch to be officially released before doing another version. Edit: Also for the SSE2 thing it says in the read me what cpu brand its for (I think sse2 is for intel cpus?), there should be another one to use for AMD cpus in the same download, check in the read me. But if your using the 1.4 patch you shouldn't have it in anyway, will have to wait til he updates it for 1.4.

Thanks for the reply, I dont know what I did but the second time I launched the game it has a massive fps jump, I am now 30-31fps in the same area of rift where I was getting 14-15 before and now it feels 10x smoother and very playable, in other areas I get 50-55fps so the game is running sweet now and got everything maxed...just got a new 27" monitor too which I upgraded from my old 20" which I had 8 years and this game looks amazing on such a big monitor. :D
