If a mod tells you it needs SSE and you didn't install it, yes, you messed up. But not everything needs it.
Despite having SSE install, SkyUI keeps telling me it's not there. :S Most infuriating.

SKSE and Script Dragon have not been updated yet so some mods (like SkyUI) won't work with the latest beta of Skyrim.
You've installed SkyUI, SKSE or both incorrectly. Or you're forgetting to run the game by logging into Steam then double clicking skse_loader.exe.
For example I have seen mods that update the building textures, but wouldn't the HD mod already do that?
Any help would be appreciated.
Installed using Mod Manager, so am assuming it was done correctly.
Do I need to add skse_loader.exe to my Steam games?
Well fella, you have to read through the mods information read me to see what they replace, for example Skyrim HD has water changes in it with same file names as the Realistic water mod, so its best to either delete the water files before moving the folder in or install and then overwrite the files when installing the big water mod. I understand the clothing mod also now has files that Sky HD also changes. Being textures it isn't so much an issue as it shouldn't break anything if you overwrite (it might on the water one), its just down to tastes to which you prefer. Just like Oblivion theres no easy route to installing mods, if your going to install multiple replacements you need to be prepared to read through the info before installing etc.
Nexus mod manager can make it easy as if something screws up you can just use that to remove the mod instead of manually deleting files.
Get rid of SkyBoost/TESVAL, it's not needed any more.
How are you launching the game? From Steam library?
You need to launch using skse_loader.exe. In NMM, top left, you can click the drop down box and choose Launch SKSE.
Are you sure about this? From what i read the last path was a different set of optimizations to Skyboot.
You probably will not need Tesval or Skyboost after 1.4. Although you can keep an eye on the Skyboost thread on the Bethesda forums to see if they squeeze more optimizations in.
I just installed NNM for the first time, it requests to make the ini files not read only any more, do oyu guys accept this or leave them read only? Isnt it bad to leave them writable as the game can undo any tweaks?
You don't need them cpu mods anymore since 1.4 essentially does the same things they did. Tesval is old, don't use it, Skyboost is the successor to it. The Skyboost dev is waiting for 1.4 patch to be officially released before doing another version. Edit: Also for the SSE2 thing it says in the read me what cpu brand its for (I think sse2 is for intel cpus?), there should be another one to use for AMD cpus in the same download, check in the read me. But if your using the 1.4 patch you shouldn't have it in anyway, will have to wait til he updates it for 1.4.
