The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

For some reason it does not work for me. I just get the same textures of the old trellis even though it is installed and the two dds files are in the correct folder.

I wonder if it could be something to do with the official texture pack preventing these from working..?

Yeah it could be. I am not using the official texture pack as I prefer the 2K texture pack and other mods.

Start the game and untick the texture packs and then see if it shows up.

Yup just tried that, thanks :)

It is the official texture pack preventing it from working, now to see how to stop that from happening - apart from the obvious and going to the 2K ones.!

You can use the official HD pack and have it so it doesn't stop other mods working.

Edit: \Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini

Make a copy first :)

Should have following lines in there:

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

You want to add to the end of that line:

, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa

Then in either NMM or in the Skyrim Launcher Data Files, untick the 2 high res packs.

Sounds good to me.

But if I untick them does that mean they get loaded by the above lines in the Skyrim.ini and thus do not prevent or overwrite my own added texture mods from working..? But they themselves will still work..?

If that is the case it will be really great as I keep adding other texture stuff and go "meh" as I see no difference.!

EDIT:

Now mine looks like this...

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim -
Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

is that ok...?

You don't see any effect with that many mods installed ?, I only have 2 installed at the moment

I've got over a hundred at the moment and no ill effects at all.

As long as you know what you're doing, read the mods descriptions, keep them up to date and take care of the mods and load order, it's all going to be working just fine.

Yup, your looks just like mine, should work fine.

mr krugga can you please please post the full list of your mods... and write a small tutorial on how and which order you installed them.... Plus some screen shots of the game with all the mods... i have a vanilla version of skyrim and want to mod it but dont know where to start... you seem to have been experimenting a lot

MANY MANY thanks if you can do this... i will be in your debt...

Just to add...

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, HighResTexturePackFix.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

the bit in bold has needed to be added for the fixes to work :)

Just learning that there is a byte limit on adding to the list so I have now changed it to...

[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim -
Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, HighResTexturePackFix.bs

I assume that is why there is a second archive list.

I found my performance dropped a fair bit when I modified the ini to use both official and mod texture packs. I have a GTX280 so its probably pushing it as it is though.

Hmmmm, but in the readme for that mod it says you no longer need the .ini tweaks :)

"v1.3a - Found a way around the *.ini tweak, now it's just drag & drop and you're good to go!"

Edit: Ah, I guess you need the .ini tweaks still if you want to use other texture packs

yeah I messed up as I followed the instructions but then noticed that the trellis mod did not work (textures) so Then had to go back, with your help, and put the settings back in the file.

Have a read here...

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/readmes/HD%20Textures%20DLC%20Fix_readme.txt

but I put mine in the sResourceArchiveList2 as I am reading about a byte limit in those settings, not sure of what it means though.

Have a look at the STEP guide first, TheCompiler made a pretty comprehensive list of most popular mods that work well together and detailed instructions on how to install them and what tweaks to add for them to work properly.
My list differs a little, maybe even a lot from his and the number of mods I have installed may be a little confusing for starters so I suggest you start with some of the essential packs first and get going from there as you get to know the modding scene.
If you need anything specific, let me know, I'll be glad to help.

I'll post my list later on, still testing some mods and trying to figure out why some locations cause performance drop (I usually get steady 45-60 framerate but sometimes it drops to 28 or so in weird circumstances).
I also advise anyone to figure out how well their PC handles high resolution textures, I seem to have enough memory for just about anything an yet installing so many mods can cause noticeable slowdowns so make sure yours is up to scratch.
Most larger mods will feature "Lite" versions that are smaller resolution textures, e.g. 1024x1024 instead of 2048x2048, some might be even higher than that.

Well I have mine like this:

Code:
[Archive]
sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, HighResTexturePackFix.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa

With the corresponding .esp files unticked, and it all seems fine in game so far.

So it works out in order as:

DLC HD texture pack, then the HD DLC fixes overwrite that, and then I have Skyrim HD 2k which overwrites both. I think. So I get the better skin, clothes etc from DLC, and the nicer ground, walls etc from Skyrim HD 2K. In theory :).

That is how I had mine but someone noted the reason that beth created the second archivelist is that the first one is "byte" full.

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa
sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - VoicesExtra.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, HighResTexturePackFix.bsa

So I just placed my extra ones at the end of the second archive list.

I didn't think about then adding the 2k textures, sounds good.

I have just added this one for the faces etc...
