The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I deleted Skyrim a while ago(bloody hdd prices!) but I thought I would reinstall again ready for my next play, whenever that is.

Have they messed up with this hd pack? Can't seem to see a lot of love for it!

Also, I know you should install Skyrim HD and then overwrite with individual textures as you want, but it was taking ages to download so I installed all the others first and then Skyrim HD, but told it not to overwrite, I hope it will work as intended!

Just gonna look for the best shader/lighting combo now.

NMM I mean, It has crashed a hell of a lot! At one point it stopped recognizing mods which I tried to download through Nexus. I have always manually installed mods or used managers specific to games, maybe NMM just needs some more work.

I stuck with it though and have used most of the stuff recommended in STEP and it looks great

Krugga- You have loads of mods running also, does your game take ages to load? The first time I load the game it takes over a minute!

Gonna try a magic enhancement mod I think

Everything runs fine so far, the game is on an SSD and loads pretty fast.

It's no big deal really, but when I first load it it can take ages. After the first load it is normal though.

I can't make my mind up about Realistic lighting, I think it makes shadows too dark, also some interiors.

I do still get a lot of FPS drops. It is better on the whole(first time I have played it with any patches and never used skyboost or the other one) but I can still look at 2 scenes practically the same and get a difference of 30ish fps!

I know what you're saying, some stuff makes the fps go way down from 60s into low 30s or even high 20s.

That's occasional and not noticeable when you turn the fps counter off though.

I've already got over 120 mods and counting, too many to figure out which are the cause of fps drops now.

The biggest fps killers for me where various FXXA Injectors and ENB configs.

The latest version of Realistic Lighting looks a bit too bright in some places, I wasn't even sure if shadows were on in Dovahkin's Hideout.

I am also trying a few gameplay mods too. atm I have got Balanced Magic and Duel- Combat realism on the go. Also Complete Crafting Overhaul. They seem well thought of, so I'm not expecting any problems.

This is so frustrating!

I was running around the area outside Whiterun getting around 15-20fps, so I'm thinking this is unplayable, I'll quit. Then I alt-tab out of the game, go back in and I am running around the same area, doing exactly the same things but getting 40-50fps!!!!

Are you running out of vram by any chance?

Got a 6950 2gb, so I doubt it. Also using a phenom x4 which might hold it back slightly on this game, but not by much I would imagine, certainly not as much as some people seem to think anyway.

I have found something here which has improved it greatly. I changed my shadow settings to the values in that article and I did a quick test running around the areas where FPS usually drops(Whiterun, Solitude, places with lots of building) and now I get a constant 60 FPS with no slowdowns.
The only problem is that shadows bow appear slightly blocky, which might possibly become an issue, so I will play around with a few different settings, probably double the resolution values and see how it goes.

Hi. i have been downloading mods from the nexus website and also use there nexus mod manager to organise and load my mods.

However, now with this steam works thing, how does it work now? If i launch skryim directly from steam and not mod manager, does it still load up all my mods?

One thing i did try was to download some mods using steam works and launch the nexus mod manager. The Mod Manager did not display any of the mods from steamworks?

Does this mean i may potentially have to re-download all of the mods from steamworks in order for it to launch skyrim with the mods i used before? Or vice versa, re-download all the steamwork mods from nexus in order to launch skyrim with steamwork mods from nexus manager?

How do you run SKSE mod from steam? That is needed for the SkyUI mod.

Thanks in advance and have a nice valentines day with your missus

Just keep launching Skyrim as you were before (with SKSE). Steam workshop isn't needed, but it basically just downloads the file and then plonks them into your Skyrim directory's Data folder, which is where all mods are stored. Essentially, its just another place to find mods and method of downloading them. Nothing else will change, and all your mods will still be in your Data folder. Not sure if any files downloaded via Steam Workshop will show in Nexus Mod Manager, I don't use the NMM myself.
