The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

I didn't get much if any hit from the official HD pack, the unnofficial ones though are meant to have a bigger hit because of all the extra stuff they add, which can cause VRAM issues :)

It wasn't until I started adding things like Natural Immersion/FXAA and loads of other mods and stuff I started taking a real FPS hit.

I should have been more clear.

I was on about the 2k texture pack, I am already running the Bethesda pack with a fluid 60FPS. That said I have crossfire 6970's which are less than optimised for this game. I would like better textures but I dont want to sacrifice smoothness.

Well, it makes things look a bit jaggier due to some of the post processing, but I found Immersive Environments FXAA mod made a MASSIVE difference to detail, even without the 2k textures :)

Really brought out detail :) It does net a small FPS hit of about 2-8FPS dependant where I am in the game, but it definately looks good once you get past the intial sharpening. I'm running a 6870, and 16xAF/4xAA as well as the rest of my mods and I'm usually running 40-60FPS.
Might be worth trying this as well as 2k.

I'd imagine it'd depend on what you're after, I would imagine they would look even better unless it exposes issues with them :) Obviously how much an improvement you noticed would probably also depend on which FXAA injector/mod you're using :)
VRAM will probably be the trick here, part the reason I've not tried them is I've only got a 1GB card, and I'd guess I'm already pushing with my settings as it is :)

The sharpening and colours do make a massive difference. Sometimes I just stand around looking at things pressing the pause button to turn the effects on and off :).

HA! I do the exact same thing sometimes. It's quite amazing just how blurry vanilla is compared to a FXAA. :D

Just use the 2k 'lite' pack. It looks far better than vanilla, but it doesnt affect the fps. I'm using 2k lite and also the lower res serious landscape textures and am using a 1gb card with no problems.

nexus

Hi All
I'd like a bit of advice I have been using steam workshop for my mods (new to mods) a couple of my favourite mods have gone from the workshop, but are on nexus. My question is how hard is it to learn about nexus and use it and will the nexus mods interfere with my steam mods. thanks in advance.

Which landscape textures are you referring to? The lite version of the 2k landscapes pack, or something else?

@Larry
A lot of the Nexus mods have installation instructions, they'd only interfere with a steam mod if both affect the same thing :)

Guys - Ive only just woken up to this Steam "workshop" thing for Skyrim. Only noticed it today when Skyrim auto-updated through Steam :D

Anyways just wanted to clarify: is the "Workshop" an alternative to downloading mods from the Skyrim Nexus site? Do mods auto-install or something? I mean..is there an advantage to adding mods through Workshop vs. downloading & installing from Nexus?

Thanks :o

Yes, its an alternative to using Nexus [and often more reliable IMO] the Workshop mods could not be simpler to use; just click 'subscribe' on the mod you wish to try and launch Skyrim and it will download and install, ready to use... don't click play until it has finished downloading. It will also re-sync the mod if it is updated. If you don't like it, either un-subscribe in the 'Workshop' or select and delete by clicking 'Data Files' in the launch box, then highlight and click 'Remove Selected'... this will also un-subscribe you as well.

I combine this with manually installed mods where I perhaps only want a portion of something.
