The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - MODS & TWEAKS

Note: anything above 80fps will cause really bad glitching/bugs. Falling through the floor and stuff.

I put vsync back on as I was walking beside the ocean and it was going mental!!

Just weird how it seems to be performing well now when it wasn't the first time I tried it

Look again :)

I think this is an essential tweak to run, once you start messing with adding high res textures into Skyrim as most are thoroughly unoptimised. I just use the minimum (safe) preset for skyrim. It helps me to keep Vram usage under 2.7GB. Once I hit this amount it seems to be the cause of my crashes to desktop.

SLI users having problems? Works brilliant for me, so not sure what your issues are.

Thanks, I'll try it out later.

The texture optimiser isn't working. I take it it's because I'm using MO?

Output is:

Dawnguard.bsa
... Error: unknow file
Dawnguard.esm
... Error: unknow file
Dragonborn.bsa
... Error: unknow file
Dragonborn.esm
... Error: unknow file
HearthFires.bsa
... Error: unknow file
HearthFires.esm
... Error: unknow file
HighResTexturePack01.bsa
... Error: unknow file

.... x loads of other files, same error ....

Just point TO to the folders MO has created from the mods you have installed - that's where all the massive textures are.

If you don't know where MO is creating these folders, just right click on a particular texture mod and click Open in Explorer - this will give you the full path to the textures.

Still not working...

I still hate MO :p

Thankfully NMM has gone far beyond what it used to be and the alpha will have seperate profiles so you can go back to any previous states before modding.

String, have you tried going into each mod folder individually and running TO rather than pointing it at the root folder?

Neil, it's the best - you have ultimate control over all things moddy :D

Well I've put everything back to how it was now pretty much. Have definitely decided tamriel reloaded HD doesn't actually look that nice, and is certainly not worth the performance hit and crashes to desktop. I actually think the good old skyrim 2k textures I had running are by far the best looking.

However, I'm still getting crashes to desktop now. Well annoyed. I had a perfectly great looking, great running skyrim with all my previous mods and enb and now I've borked it.

Any advice for crashing to desktop? I've done the usual running boss, load order, I'm using the skse ini setting, tried a few different memory management settings in enblocal ini......

I don't use MO fella. I just use nexus mod manager.

Think I might load a full save from when I know I had it set up as it was and go from there.

Delete your ini's under My Documents\My Games\Skyrim and re launch through steam not NMM to get the files loaded back.

Disable all mods in NMM and apply the fixes in the OP, have you installed some of the starter mods in my guide? They fix a tonne of bugs.

I would start with just the patches and SKSE installed and try a fresh save, get to Riverwood and see if you crash.

T.A.Z Visual Overhaul

This is a complete visual overhaul of Skyrim (WIP).
It comes with completely reworked weathers, newly added weathers, adapted climate templates and a ENB configuration to compliment these changes. To achieve this I've completely reworked the existing weathers to get natural skyboxes, proper ambient colors (which is essential for ENBs skylighting to work properly), added completely new weather types and much, much more.

The ENB preset uses almost all effects at disposal so that you get to enjoy real dynamic 3d sunrays shining through the clouds, dynamic cloud shadows, volumetric mist(almost 1000 handplaced mistanchors), "volumetric" clouds, SSAO/SSIL, soft shadows .etc all tweaked to produce a pleasant and balanced picture during all situations.

Any brave testers? :D

Sorry for double post but got a quick question about another matter:

If I would install Steam and Mod Organizer on a different PC but with exact same mods running, can I then continue with same playthrough ?? Come to think I could try that since I still having this sound issue from time to time playing Skyrim on my main PC and want to try on another PC to rule out if it is something else on my PC that gives me the problem of not. If it make sense ?

You should be able to. MO is completely self contained, it just hooks all the mods you have downloaded into whatever path you have pointed it to for Skyrim - just make sure you copy all the mods/downloads as well if you set up MO to put them somewhere other than default. You may also have to edit some ini files if you install them to a different drive / path.

Thanks but I then come to realize it only occurs when I use Crossfire so can't try on another machine since would mean I have to move PSU and the GFX's as well, and can't be asked to do that (to many cables to move around).

On another note though, if comparing a 290 4GB with a nVidia card, would that be a GTX 970 card ?? I mean just roughly same performance and such..

Hi,

Just had my first ctd since rolling vanilla with a few texture mods. Fine for 15 hours, then whilst climbing the steps to the Grey beards, went to click on an npc to talk and ctd. Shows up as a BEX crash. Any ideas?

Vanilla with no USKPS
SSME memory patch installed
Some Cabal texture mods, SKyrim HD lite and lush trees & grass
A font replacer and better menu controls
No esps or bsas installed other than vanilla and official dlc's

That's it. Running it maxed out with 4xAA win 7 64bit.

Should I just accept that Skyrim will occasional crash?

Will give TAZ a blast now, will post some comparison screenshots.

Currently running Seasons of Skyrim, so should be a lot of differences.
