Here's an idea for a poll.

British people wanting out of the E.U. versus British people disapproving of Scottish Independence.

Let's see what the percentage is on hypocrites.

You could equally argue the SNP who are pro Independence but massively pro-EU membership are the same.

But anyway you are comparing apples with oranges....

The UK/Scottish union is based on the geographical sense (we're all stuck on the same Island).

The UK/Scottish union has existed for centuries not decades

The UK/Scottish union is based on a shared currency, language, culture and importantly comparative living standards.

The UK/Scottish union is devolving, powers are being transferred to Scotland (even if not as fast as the SNP would like) unlike the EU in which decision making powers are being eroded and taken away year by year.

Scotland has real power in the UK, whilst it didn't happen it was thought by many they would decide the last election. The UK has nowhere near the influence in EU decision making as Scotland does in Westminister's.

Your argument is basically if you support Brexit then you must also support Mad Brian McMad's plan to make his house and garden a sovereign nation as well otherwise you're a hypocrite.

It's like saying you're a hypocrite if you want to remain but don't want to see the formation of an NWO to replace all national governments

For those undecided just ask yourself "If we were not already in the EU would we vote to join"

Hell, yes. In fact, it would make it much easier for us to argue for the EU. It's much easier to argue the benefits of a 6-8% boost to GDP, the huge freedom of free movement, access to Erasmus, and so on as a positive case than it is to argue for those things we'd lose.

The comparisons in that video are pretty poor: Iceland, Norway and Switzerland are all members of the Single Market and have free movement with the EU. What we're risking with a Brexit vote is a much worse outcome than that - especially now that the lead figures who might get influence on the outcome are actively proposing that we'll leave the Single Market and abandon free movement. I don't doubt that Iceland, Norway and Switzerland would all choose to go from being outside the EU altogether to their current positions.

Despite that I'm not actually going to be voting in the referendum I think I would be a "leave" if I did.

Although if leave it's the ultimate decision i wonder how it will affect things for me personally in the long term.

Once again.... why are switzerland and norway being used as a shining example? They are part of the EEA. They abide by the EU rules and free movement.

I am getting very annoyed about this as its being constantly looked over by brexiters. I genually hope we leave at this point and then join the EEA just to make a bloody point to them.

As a Brexiter I am just as annoyed by Remainians using Norway and Switzerland as examples of countries that have bad deal (They have to abide by EU rules by can't influence them blah blah blah), yet when you ask why those two aren't signing up to join then you just get silence.

Question then, who made the decision to go into the EU in the first place. Was this a public vote or was it someone or some people just making it all up.

EDIT: According to this source 1973/1975 was the vote to the public. 66% said yes.

There was a referendum and the people voted for the EEC (Common Market), which was heralded as a trading group only, in order to ease trade between European countries. Back then the EEC was relatively small and consisted of wealthier countries in the European area.
The EU (as a political body) was not the subject of the referendum, or at the very least the public in general knew nothing of it at the time.

Well I have voted remain as I have done on every poll.
I have just watched, "Look who's back" and I kept thinking of this thread during the film.

But Norway and Switzerland still want to be a part of it in some way. And that conflicts with why Brexiters want to leave. I reckon a large percentage of the brexiters don't even know what these countries have signed up to and yet they are used as a beacon of hope as to what we could be.

Can you, or any of the brexiters honestly say that you would be happy to leave the EU and become part of the EEA? Tell me honestly. I very much doubt it, and I can understand that. But then the argument for being like them shouldnt be used.

I can see us ending up joining this if a leave vote is won. And you lot would have been conned.

I'm on my mobile so not going to get into detail but have previously stated my reasoning why EFTA (Norway option) is preferential to full eu membership. However I'm also in favour of having a immigration policy that continues to favour EU nationals.
