I just read in the Times that Brown takes the lead this week and Cameron steps back (distance himself more like) so I am now convinced more than ever letting Brown step forward he really wanted us out anyway.

As much as Cameron has been a disaster for Remain, Brown will take that to new levels of numpty.

So when the Greeks voted against austerity that was respected and no laws were imposed on them. Must be reading different papers to me.

The Greeks wanted concessions that weren't realistic. Like any community, you can't do anything you want that affects others without consequences. You can't continue to have a huge public sector and expect other nations to pay for it.

Standards are going global anyway, if you produce a credit card it has to be to ISO standards, as does a lot of stuff as per here. And where is the ISO organization based.....Switzerland :D

But which standard is chosen is often important to EU businesses. GSM was chosen as the European standard for mobile networks long before it was accepted as the global standard. European technology firms had incredible input into it because Europe standardised early. Firms like Nokia and Ericsson still make hundreds of millions of Euros in revenue because they hold key patents used in the standard and its descendants.

That isn't the point, do you think the way EU treated Greece was respectful of its "history, culture and laws"?

Scorza's question tried to imply the EU would never disrespect the wishes of the people of a country, that clearly isn't true and Greece isn't the only case of this happening.

Do you need political union to share a mobile communication standard?

It's nothing to do with respect. Greece got themselves in a pickle and had a very difficult decision to make. They got themselves so deep in debt they had to accept further austerity or look at leaving the Euro. They didn't like either of those options, but it was ultimately their choice.

That's no fault of the EU though.
