And...? The UK is a very influential voice in defence matters. The Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe is usually British. We could be at the front of forming policy here if we wanted to.

We won't know till it happens. But when we leave it's a moot point :)

Yes. For a simple reason we won't have to give the EU their share of our vat any more.
I have posted how much we lose in VAT to the EU.

VAT makes over £80bn a year. Even in the leave fantasy world in which leaving the EU has no costs, and you chose to use that part of our £8bn or so net contribution for this purpose, it would reduce VAT by about 1/40th or 0.5%. In reality, of course, the economic damage from Brexit would far, far outweigh any money we clawed back from EU contributions.

On yesterday's Daily Politics they interviewed a Norwegian MP who described their last referendum on whether to join the EU or not in '94. Their In campaign was eerily similar to our current remain campaign. Amazingly, despite the dire predictions of the sky falling in if Norway didn't vote to join, everything continued OK the day after the referendum. All the elite politicians in Norway want to join, because they get to join this club, jet off to various locations looking important and things, whereas ordinary people see very little benefit in them doing that.

oh dear, you know why. They where never in eu so of course it carried on as normal.
just like in the event of a remain vote for us it will carry on as normal.

a far cry from us have a leave vote and every thing in UK changing.

technically if people want to stay in, shouldn't you vote leave? Seeing as its a referendum, there's no legal bind for the government to take action on the vote, all they will do is go back to the EU council, say "this is what the public voted" and probably come back with a better deal.

Seeing as our government leader doesn't want to leave, I'm pretty sure he will do everything he can in order to not leave.

So, shouldn't you vote leave, in order to show the EU the current negotiations are terrible?

VAT isnt supposed to be on basic food goods hence its probably fairer this way on the poorest

Actually VAT is really quite regressive, the rich pay less of their income in VAT than the poor, and spend a lot more on food. VAT on tin of beans would be a lot less than the VAT on a Artisanal Corn-fed, Free-range, Rare-breed, Norwegian Blue Tailed Duck, after all.

This is dangerous nonsense; if we vote to Leave, we will Leave. Yeah, it's not technically binding on the government but it has made it very, very clear it will act on the decision of the public and any attempt from Cameron to do otherwise would not only end his political career but do huge and lasting damage to the Tory party.

That would be utterly, recklessly dangerous.

But even if you were right, why would I want to do that? One of the problems with reforming the EU is that while there's a lot of agreement that it needs reform, there's very little agreement on what reforms we should have. I wouldn't trust Cameron to try and negotiate for the kind of changes I'd like to see even if he was in a position to do so.

So you never read the link to the pdf done by the business for Britain, I left. Oh dear.

Yeah cus trusting Cameron saying he'll do what is in the best interest of the people works out well...

But he negotiated before? Isn't that why he has switched sides? As he has negotiated terms that better him / his pocket / his closest allies, while ignoring the people of the country.

Can't believe the OCUK populace are still more in favor of leaving, utterly beggers belief, it's so blindingly obvious to stay I'm not even going to get into the details here.................what's wrong with everyone!? lol, I'm shocked, blind nationalism really is more powerful than sensible logical thought.

Come on. I'm need reading a 15 page .pdf in detail to try and figure out what part of it makes whatever point you're making. If you want to counter what I said with something from their .pdf you'll need to point out what part of it supports your position.

So you never did. Your barrel has NO bottom now.

I'm equally surprised with anyone voting to remain. People voting to remain have lost their minds and are betraying future generations.

How anyone can trade their sovereignty in the manner of the remain camp just makes me appalled. It's the equivalent of a slave choosing to remain a slave just because taking freedom might require a bit of hardship or effort.

Being part of Europe is fine. Being freinds with Europe and trading with them is fine. But I don't want to be governed by them in any way.

And Britain should be the sole arbiter of who comes into the country and who does not. We can introduce a points system with full health checks to ensure that only the useful and healthy enter the country.
