I wonder what will be the figure in 10 years time when those migrants procreate? What future does that give our Children? That figure could be much higher than 3.3 million when you include their potential offspring! I worry that it's not sustainable.

Same can be said for the chavvy underclass who see children as a revenue stream :p

Although I'll be voting to remain, I'm sort of half hoping that we end up leaving!
I really enjoy watching and reading about all the political drama, and seeing the heated discussion in here. A remain result will pretty much put a stop to it all. A leave result will have the politics of the UK in turmoil for at least 5 years. It will be fun to watch.

Why would they?

Politics, particularly European politics.

Those 35 requirements were not fully implemented when a lot of eastern European states joined the EU, and Euro entry rules were relaxed so Greece could join with predictable results.

Germany is desperate for Turkey to join and all this talk of it taking many years is rubbish.
Everybody knew the EU was waiting until after Friday to bring all it's bad stuff back.

Vote leave then?

Some people just want to watch the world burn :D Vote leave, you know you want to.

Why do you say Germany is desperate for them to join? Isn't the migration of Turkish people to Germany one of the biggest awkward debates in Germany? Wouldn't a good proportion of Turkish migrants to the rEU head there because of the established Turkish communities/friends/family/etc?

What I should have said is Merkel is desperate for them to join although she got elected promising it wouldn't happen.

Interesting series of lectures about the history of the EU and build up of events that led to us joining:

http://www.gresham.ac.uk/series/britain-and-europe/

One thing that strikes me is that from the very beginning we have failed to negotiate effectively with the rest of the block (you could say down to our failure to join from the beginning) so why would that change in the future?

However I wouldn't be so confident of tariff free trade if we vote leave. In the past they were happy to block us out to ensure the success of the union and keep out cheaper goods from the commonwealth, I don't see that view changing today.

The whole geopolitical trade thing is just world-scale mafia protection rackets :p

Stay and trade with us, or else. Either way, we are bound by their terms.

Didn't the original Pax Europa idea include Constanstinople ?... I mean the ideology would finally be near-complete if turkey joined.

But saying that, it would much more difficult to actually achieve if they forced it, as Norway and Switzerland would be very much against joining.

I actually meant Pax Romana, but it's basically the same.
