1. We vote our MPs', we don't vote for all of the MEPs'. That allows us to hold them accountable in a general election for their decisions, we can't do that if MEPs from other countries make decisions we disagree with.

How many Lords have you voted for recently?

No system is perfect. at least when we vote in UK MP's we have some level of accountability that is real though. The situation with the MEP's in Europe is that you get about 6 people represent your national interest and then 27 other countries get about the same. If we had 28 different parties with PR in our government it'd never agree on any measure but when it comes to the EU it is obviously done that way so it proves to distance your vote from the democratic process even further (fine for trade where all parties SHOULD have a say but domestic law should remain in domestic hands).

laws shouldn't be outsourced to popular vote of 28 countries to find the least disagreeable option for all people, it's not efficient or in our interest to always be tied down to regular concessions / hand holding / self interest on all EU policies. Even if they were outsourced you'd expect at least some brain power to leave a little bit of leeway and flexibility even if not too much.

This is simply not true. We get 73 MEPs - just under 10% of the total - and the amount other countries get depends non-linearly on their population. It is not simply equally divided between the 28 nations.

The MEPs in the European Parliaments divide into 8 groups (+15 MEPs who are members of no group) not 28 different parties.

So again, the argument for leaving is based on "facts" peddled around that simply aren't true

No, the UK is under-represented in the European Parliament, we have 1 MEP per 800k population whereas countries like Luxembourg get something like 1 MEP per 40k population.

Using that as an example we'd end up with around 1600 MEPs just image how unworkable that would be... ;)

When someone trys to scare someone else into getting their way you know that person will lose out, I think car company's will lose out big if the UK leaves, I think it will be the opposite. It will benefit workers and not the car manufacturers, they will take a hit they can't afford to abandon the UK.

Aye, it's funny how pro-EUers will tell us if we pull out how we'll lose out on the best foreign employees because they'll be put of by a Visa process (basically filling out a form) and will just look for jobs in the europe as it's less hassle.

Yet, the best business here conversely are all prepared to knock down their multi-million pound factories, rebuilt them elsewhere in the world, pay millions in redundancies and millions more in training a new workforce all whilst risking their quality of their product to save themselves a few quid in tariff charges.

Contradictory arguments, contradictory arguments everywhere.

Maybe UK is under represented because for some reason England keep electing numnuts and separatists as MEPs that don't turn up to work, steal money, call prime ministers of other countries "damp rags" during proceedings and alienate other parliamentary groups.

One of the reason young French and Spaniards come to the UK is because our looser social system allows companies to employ them without the burden of lifelong employment. I have personally known many young European engineers who cannot get work at home because companies will not take the risk of employing inexperienced professionals. They have returned home with several years experience and found work. Unless their home countries significantly change their outlook such engineers wil still come to the UK looking for experience. I personally know German Vet who came to the UK to get paid experience working in the UK voluntary sector because without it it she couldn't get a job, she has returned home. Our economy provides such people a fantastic opportunity unavailable at home that won't change if we leave. It is in out interest to encourage them because it provides a constant supply of young motivated educated unecumbered workers that fill many of the entry level positions that drive UK business forward.

See, hardly anyone knows what actually goes on in Europe with MEPs and all that
It is basically too many parties and too many cultures different to our own

We just don't belong in it
Germany, France, Italy Poland etc tend to agree on a lot of things, they are European. We are not. You can guarantee the only reason eu want us in is we net contribute. If we didn't, and caused as much fuss as we do you can bet they would prefer us out

Pretty simply comes down to we contribute and could cause other countries to come out.
We will be the guinea pig. I'm game
And might be some great banking shares to buy immediately after we come out as markets overreact and then instantly recover 80pc of what they lost in a week

As much as it would strengthen the Leave argument if that were true, and the EU really was deliberately disrespecting the UK and UK voters becasue they don't agree with our politics, the European Parliament is actually designed to be degressively proportional.

I find it incredible that our leaders actually agreed to this and ensure that UK voters have less of a say in the running of the EU that citizens from Luxembourg. This is why I don't trust our leaders not to give away further UK sovereignty to the EU, such as agreeing to the creation of an EU army and putting British troops under its command.

So Germany has an estimated population of just under 80 million, it has been decreasing by ~0.21% per annum for a few years.

The UK has an estimated population of ~65 million, it has been increasing by ~0.6% or higher since 2010.

So if the UK has 73 EU seats, why does Germany have 96 seats instead of 90?
