I don't understand why the public is making the decision on this- we're not economists, politicians, or futurologists (if they're even a real profession?), we're just normal people, completely uneducated in global economics. It seems bonkers to allow such a large decision to be made by us!

Think about the millions and millions of pounds that have gone into planning and cost/benefit analysing for HS2, which will likely have a much, much smaller impact both in scale and space on our country than leaving the EU. We have no idea of the details of what would happen if we left the EU.

So on that note where can I find good data on what would happen if we left the EU so I can actually make an informed decision?

It's all out there if you want to read it. Do you let everyone make decisions for you with out question?

You'll never find that data because it doesn't exist, neither does any data on what will happen if we stay in the EU. You have to use your judgement.

The general public are making this decision because it's been a long established principle that in Britain the people should decide who governs Britain; in this case it's a choice between an elected Parliament in the nation's capital or some appointed individuals (e.g. Peter Mandleson) from each of the 28 member nations in Brussels.

By blocking any trade agreements between the EU and UK if Gibraltar is not excluded. They do that already, just look at the dealys relating to the new single skies treaty. The boarder between Gibraltar and Spain was only opened as part of their entry process into the EU. So a an exit of the EU by the UK would be really bad for Gibraltar.

Don't exaggerate; this isn't a decision as to whether I go to the shops today or not.

I am happy to make a decision on something if I have data available. I will also make a decision if I don't have the data if there is not someone who is better placed to make the decision, after all as that is 'life'. However for this decision, there are people far better qualified than my self who would have a much more informed judgement on the decision.

I will doing some thorough googling over the coming months.

This contradicts Deuse's view and surely is an oversimplification of the matter?

I would prefer an independent, unbiased professioal / qualified body to make a much more informed decision for us although this is impossible

What do you think the UK response would be if the Spanish did that? Just sit back and take it I imagine...

Scare tactics. Yet again and a load of **** to boot

The uk will look after its interests and forget about Gibraltar. When we are talking about billions of £'s and 1000's of jobs in the UK, we will be forgotten, again.

Lack of border controls are the sticking point for me. All you've got to do is walk over Westminster bridge to see why. Restricting the freedom of movement isn't even on the EU reform agenda. So I'm out.

Leave.. We put far to much into the pot and get to little out.

How are you defining 'far too much'? The UK pays the lowest %age of its GNI into the EU of any country, and while we're the second largest total net contributor if you consider the more reasonable measure of per capita net contribution we're a good way down the list.

Outside of the simple question of money-in, money-out; it's hard to quantify the contribution of being a member of the EU to our economy - although most estimates put it at many billion a year - while many of the functions that are currently carried out by the EU would need to be carried out by the UK outside the EU anyway and probably be more expensive than having the cost of those functions shared between nations.

Beginning to see journalists describe Chris Grayling as the de facto leader of the Leave campaign. What an amazing, wonderful gift to every Europhile in the UK.
