The Evil Within 2 (Friday 13th October 2017!!!)

Is the second a big improvement on the first?

Playing the first now. It started well but chapter two and three are a bit meh so far.

Annoying game play. One small mistake and you have to replay the enter section again from the last checkpoint.

I've literally just started playing and I am already trying to finish it as fast as possible.

Graphics dated too.

And performance..... horrific. :o

It's amazing how much perceptions and opinions differ. Most folk didn't like the first chapter. I loved the gameplay and thought the checkpoints were fair. I was restricting myself to 1 hour or 1 chapter per night as I didn't want it to end. I thought the game looked great. Performance wise, I was getting a solid 57 FPS at 3440x1440 with my Fury X when I played it which I was happy with.

You are turning me around on to the idea of buying This! I've been a bit up and down on it but your praise can't be for nothing:D

I'll try and wrap up the original one first then pick this up I think
Well this is my favourite type of game. I'm sure it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but if you like survival horror and games presented in this style with a few cinematics thrown in then I think it's awesome.

My only criticism is that the game doesn't support raw mouse input, which means that aiming and movement feels unresponsive. It's clearly a console port that's designed for controllers.

I love horror games when done right, enjoyed resi 4 and the original evil within I liked to an extent but found it took control away from me too often and the story was a bit too messy for its own good

Does this improve on that stuff

Yeah I'd say so. I like to feel like I'm playing through a movie so really enjoy cinematics in games and can't say I've ever shared the frustrations that a lot of people appear to have with them (apart from maybe once in Far Cry 4 when I wiped out a whole army to get to a doorway only to be butted round the back of the head and knocked out!) but the story is certainly much more straight forward and the cinematics are mostly limited to safe houses and interactions with characters for the majority of the game.

Just helped Torres in that house, and got back to her safe house, after getting past those fiery buggers, so its chapter 11, back to the Marrow and O'Neil :D

Really? Maybe I'm not sensitive to such things but I played it with the mouse and keyboard and thought it was grand.

I'm now on Chapter 5 of the first game. It's fun.... but what makes it a little bit frustrating is how bad the performance still is.

I get some serious slow downs in frame rate. I would have thought two years after the game launched it would be fixed by now.

Yea it's pretty poor

Can anyone speak for optimisation of the 2nd game? Is it better?

Anyone else find the smoke bolts pointless ?, ive never used a single one yet, their only use, as far as i can see, is so they can't find you through the smoke that they let off for a set time, allowing you to sneak kill them, but i do that anyway :p

Just got the chip out of that blokes head in the lab, so i can get through the door Hoffman went through

Yeah on 2 out of the 3 times I tried to use them, the sneak attack didn't register and I got spotted and attacked! Didn't bother with them again after that...

Its excellent but you need a decent GPU above 1080P it requires a GTX1080 or stronger GPU for 4K. The gfx are subtle but the detail & high quality lighting FX really push things looks wise although screenshots & videos do not do the game any justice you have to see with your own eyes. This is not a game for low end GPU+CPU combos!

It runs fine for me on a Fury, maxed out at 1440p, using a pad, have had the odd stutter, even though the frames are still around 50+, but its rare, probably just needs a patch to sort out.

On chapter 12 now
and out of bolts, used them all on O'Neal, he took some killing, and can't make anymore yet, as not got the nails and what not. :(

Thought i could build gels, parts etc... back up via the shooting gallery, but seems once you beat the top score, thats it, no more, normal ?

It shouldn't require it though, it's just the utilisation isn't great. My 1080 can sit at 70% when it should be 95%+. I don't think it's the CPU holding it back either even though it could be better.

Just finished the first game.

Performance horrific. First 3 chapters I thought this was going to be a drag but the game slowly improved. The last 4 chapters are the best in my opinion.

Oh and Leslie is a bit of a fruit cake. :p

The game is quite long. I think it took me 15hrs.

It's also very hard even on easy mode.

I'd give it a good 7/10 but the performance for a game which has been out 2 maybe close too 3 years was terrible.
