Yeah, that too. Though I am not a huge fan of that usually. I agree that had Cas not done what he did he would have made it until the end, so yeah, I do not buy that explanation. He certainly would not have died the way he did, as that was dumb. It so clearly was done last minute.
Or just recast the part... I’m sure there must be several middle aged Indian (Asian) actors in America or Canada they could have picked. What makes it even more irksome is the claim by the show producers I read on an entertainment site (can’t find the link but Google Expanse S5 TV vs book) is that this was an intended plot mechanic to add drama and pathos to the story, even to the point of stating Alex actually died the way Fred Johnson did in the book. Total bull muck!
I take it there was truth to the allegations then? Just really surprised, didn't really know the rl.events until he left. Thought the way the character ended was clumsy and didn't make a lot of sense.
That's pretty much how it played out in the book, although I think Fred's stroke-out death was actually in a later fight in the next book. But yeah, they did the best they could, it's just unfortunate that it still feels a bit abrupt because of how they had to edit it in after filming had finished.I wonder if Fred originally was going to survive the shooting and then die of the high g burn while on the rocci chasing the ship with the protomolecule. Can see why they'd go with reshooting a couple scenes and some editing to have Fred die earlier and give Alex the stroke out.
Can't be mad at the show runners for this, they made the best of a bad situation.
I do feel that by editing Alex out of the scene it made Avasarala's 'this is how we win' speech falls kinda flat.
The intention of the speech is clearly aimed at the mixed nature of the Roci crew, Earth, Mars, and the belt working together. They're clearly all supposed to be there. But without alex, it's a bit hollow and also too jubilant a scene after such a bit loss to their family.
What, built up as being so strong then killed by a little girl. That ending sequence really intrigued me. I love stuff like that. BUT I've been caught our before. The White Walkers, for example.
They seemed to tease them early on then nothing for about 4 seasons. Not just strong. The White Walkers were a terrifying, existential threat to the entire world. Built up like that from the very first scene and then...they just weren't. I've never been so disappointed.
I really hope the Big Bad in TE doesn't go the same way.
This 100% at least for the 5th season. The adherence to the books wasn’t too bad during S1 to 3 but the drift started in S4 and S5 they threw it under the bus (or Epstein Drive).Read the books.... Much better.
does anyone actually care if naomi dies?
feels like I'm supposed to buy I couldn't care less so the storyline is just boring.
almost guaranteed she has plot armour anyway but I'm hoping she dies a glorious death
She's been aboard Marco's ship so likely has a lot of intel to impart. That, if you can save her, is likely to be exceptionally valuable to her mates, so it's in most peoples' interest if she can either escape or effect her own rescue.I find her more irritating than jar jar Bink and rose combined at times, find her acting wooden, was hoping she was going to self destruct the ship to save others trying to rescue her and dying, but no.

Her acting, or just her Belter accent? It might seem bit odd, but I know plenty of people who are like that for real. To me that's far more realistic/authentic for a show like this, than a highly skilled actor delivering well-rehearsed and intricately polished dialogue.
