The FA CUP Third Round - 7/8/9 January *** Spoilers ****

It is different to waving a card though, isn't it.

If you put your hands in the air when you think it's your teams throw in, technically thats influencing the referee, no one will complain about that. Whats the difference between claiming a throw in, and claiming a foul?

i've stated that players influence the referee and it wont be the last time it happens. but influencing a throw in and getting a player sent off are a little different, unless you're playing stoke!

tell that to frank lampard

It was two footed, it deserved a red, simples.

Right this is what i can see, this is my commentary watching the video:

Kompany does leave the ground prior to contact, this is maybe worthy of a yellow due to potentially causing a dangerous tackle had he made contact sooner.

When he makes contact he is clearly on the ground and sliding along the ground.

His left leg is well out of the way of nani and plays no part in the tackle itself even if it wasn't tucked under like a proper tackle should be, there's also no sign of him ever "scissoring" nani with his left leg.

Overall he makes good full contact with the ball, and makes a clean tackle. Worthy of maybe getting a yellow for leaving the ground at the start in a bid to gain momentum, but just before and during contact he is firmly on the ground.

Can you really argue with that? This is a completely no biased view based on what i'm watching.

EDIT: i'm watching the video 2 pages back again and again, the right leg clearly is the only leg involved in the tackle, and his feet are as grounded as they can be during the course of contact.

you don't know then

You mean his challenge on Adam Hammill that went unpunished?

You sound like you are about 15, judging by your posts. So, ill just leave with what I said earlier.

@mrbios, I believe the rule is for malicious intent aswell as if Nani had stuck his foot in (good job he didn't.).

Can't believe some people's angles on this, you can't leave the ground 2 feet leading towards somebody else. You are not staying on the pitch.

Because he didn't cripple the lad, is not a ******* excuse to be lenient.

There is a difference in a lunge and a sliding tackle. Kompany was more a lunge. His Studs went right into the ball not his boot. could have been Nani ankle.

@ Gilly. That's not the point. Nani jumped the 'tackle' so he didn't even make contact with Nani. Rhetorically fact if that he dived in recklessly with both feet forward with both sets of studs showing towards ball and player.

He intercept the ball with the inside of his right, now unless he has done a star jump his left leg was within what a foot or two of his right. So id argue that both feet were active in this play.

Watch the second angle on the video above, the ball hits the side of his boot, and he slides in according to block the ball with his foot/leg, he's not going for the ball with the studs of his boot.

Also his right leg swings outwards as nani comes towards him, so to scoop the ball out from under him.

Think he depends on the angle you see it. In most his studs are clearly showing and it was lunge

That's a good point, there's one angle where it does look like a dangerous tackle, i'm not sure what angle this is in reference to the refs position though (one where you're behind a man city player watching it through his legs ... oo err :p)

His left foot gets nowhere near him :/

You don't have to hit the player with both feet for it to be considered a two footed tackle you know :)

Kompany's tackle was a textbook two footed tackle really. It satisfies all the criteria. Two feet forward, studs up, flying through the air.

If anything Nani skipping over it made it look like a better tackle than it actually was. If he had connected with Nani and broke his leg we'd be saying it was the most disgusting tackle this season like De Jong's tackle on Ben Arfa last season (was very similar, he also scissored both sides of the player's leg).
