The Fashion Thread... personal tastes, musings, and recommendations

Double post.

Edit: May as well add this from the other thread:

Worn these two for a week or so each.

To the left are a pair of surprisingly very good quality River Island (!) Holloway brogues. Nice thick heel and great quality for the price. I got these for £60.

And to the right are the boots i have wanted for at least a year. A pair of Red Wings. Bit more expensive (£229) but a boot for life. The shop by Carnaby Street is well worth visiting with extremely knowledgable and friendly staff that can help you look after your boots. Need to break them in and let the colour fade.

Love the Red Wings, I've been eyeing a pair up myself but think I'm going to go for the classic round toe or chukkas.
Like you say though, the type of boot that you take a while to choose and then enjoy them for a long time.
I'm going to NY next January so probably going to wait until I go there.

I've had a pair of Redwings for years and they are still not broken in, last time i wore them years ago my heel was bleeding ...need to wear some thick socks next time.

Whats the sole like on the boots? Looks a little thin. I tend to drag my feet on occasions as my knees are knackered.

The one on the right looks like Vibram, I have a pair of Grenson Brogues with this and it is really good. Feels a bit spongey when you walk but once you get used to it is very comfy and surprisingly hardwearing.

The one on the left is what I think you are referring too, the sole seems plenty thick? Maybe you missed the bulk of the black sole as it matches the background?

On a cool day try wearing socks with a plastic bag outside them inside the boot. It reduces the friction but the shoes still break in.

Also simply just put a plaster on your heel where it's going to rub... done it before and it cushions the area and stops the irritation. :)

Had to explain to a friend that you just don't do up the bottom button on a suit jacket who kept asking why, a bunch of googling later, still unresolved... Anyone have some definitive guidance on this faux pas?

Heard it was due to a French King who couldn't do up the last button, so others copied him and it's stuck.

Now, unless it's a one button jacket, it ruins the lines and jackets are designed for the bottom button to never be done up.

At least it shows up men who can't suit up properly.

Am now a Chinos convert... got the Next signature ones (I really love Next, awesome store with some great styles imo) in a few colours and they are just awesome with various tshirts, shirts and blazers. Currently rocking a Burgundy pair with slim-fitting white shirt and brown loaffers... looks awesome.
