The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Guys, ALX Andy is clearly a troll of the highest order
he keeps posting deliberately inflammatory and contradictory arguments and even posts links saying graphics card x was 150 and y was 450 but the same when the links show one was 19FPS and the other 100fps in the same game

he is deliberately misquoting, misconstruing and misrepresenting everything he says

as far as trolls go, 66 pages is a good "score"

What about when he has a go at AMD then??

I assume you missed all his posts on that conveniently?? It seems rather selective reading if you ask me.

An example is this thread:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18383174

He has a go at BOTH companies.

What about when he has a go at AMD then?? Is he an Nvidia troll too??

this is only an example of how he massively contradicts himself just to get a rise out of someone, I'm not saying he's a troll or fanboi to either company, just either massively self conflicted or else deliberately trying to get a rise out of someone

if someone posts in favour of nvidia he calls them an nvidiot and then if someone posts up that gtx680 will be too expensive he lays in to AMD

he's not being particularly pro either company, just massively whiny and argumentative

Is the 680 a stopgap before we see a 7xx named card relatively soon?

It does seem that way, although nothing has officially been announced.

Most places are suggesting around August time for the GK110, which will probably receive the "GTX780" moniker. GK110 should be a 2304 shader card, probably with a 384-bit memory interface and the "full set" of GPGPU features.

Beginning to think your right, at first I just thought it was someone who believed everything they read on the internet wholesale and then parroted it out as fact - but comments like using which make of GPU a game is bundled with as a basis for deciding what vendor's GPUs its biasly opptomised for is taking it a bit too far.

pretty much, forums got an ignore function for a reason though

Unfortunatly the ignore feature doesn't really work very well.

Going back to my rumour list:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=21486309#post21486309

So my new improved rumour list about the GK104:
1.)There is no GTX670TI but only a GTX680 as the GTX670TI was a smokescreen
2.)The GK104 was not called a GTX680 but Nvidia decided to do so now
7.)The GPU can be overclocked by 40% on air. Is the overclocking MASTER and clockspeed MASTER
13.)Can use system RAM
14.)Shorter PCB than a GTX570
15.)Was $299 but now $499 or $599 since Nvidia was disappointed with AMD
16.)Has backlit GEFORCE GTX logo on the top of the card
17.)Is the PhysX MASTER
18.)Has single card surround
19.)Is the UE4 MASTER
22.)Does some other stuff that I might go WTF at
24.)Uses an HT like technology
26.)Most of the rumours are not true at all
27.)The card launches on the 22nd of March
28.)The card launches on the 23rd of March
29.)Availability will be poor at launch
30.)Availability will be great at launch

No confirmation or I missed it from the preview.

3.)Initial cards did not have the magic bios, but after the magic bios were converted to GTX680 cards

It seems so,if the GPU-Z picture is legit.

5.)As fast as an HD7970
6.)Is 25% faster than an HD7970

The preview puts it at 14%,so it is neither!! Bugger!!

8.)Consumes less power than an HD7970 and is the performance per watt MASTER

It consumes more power at idle and less at load under 3DMark11. Not quite what I expected. Need to compare to Pitcairn XT for efficiency comparison.

9.)Has lower TDP than an HD7970. Meant to be a 195W card

Yes

10.)3DMark11 score 15% higher than HD7970

Seems to be correct for the 3DMark11 Extreme benchmark but not for the Performance benchmark.

11.)Has a smaller die of under 300MM2 compared to the 365MM2 die of the HD7970 and less transistors. It is the performance per MM2 MASTER and performance per transistor MASTER

Wrong on actual die size which is around 319MM2. Need to compare to Pitcairn XT for efficiency comparison.

12.)Has 2GB or 4GB of VRAM

2GB confirmed not 4GB.

20.)Has the same memory bandwidth as the GTX580. However,it is very efficient at using memory bandwidth and is the efficient memory bandwidth utilisation MASTER.
23.)Uses a Vapor chamber
25.)Uses a Turbo Boost like technology

Yes.Need to see results at higher resolutions though.

I'm just calling a spade a spade. I do that with everything. Want to know how great my 7970 is? Well, not only have I wanted to cut it in half and smash it with a hammer this week but I have also made my thoughts clear on how bad I think the drivers are.

What problems have you had with the drivers for your 7970?

Of course. But, as much as we hate to admit it in life we only like seeing and hearing the things important to us.

The truth? never seems to matter of course.

Ho hum.

What problems have you had with the drivers for your 7970?

Too many. Far too many for a £439 card.

First set I used caused the screen to roll in Left 4 Dead 2 and Alan Wake's menu. Basically it looked like a CRT being filmed with a video camera.

None of the drivers I have used have allowed my PC to sleep and then wake without problems. First problem I had on the last drivers covered the screen in coloured blocks (white pink and cyan) around 5mm2

Second set I used did that also, but the bottom half of my monitor became a black hole. IE - when waking the PC if I moved anything down under my monitor's "half way line" so to speak would simply vanish.

The fix for all of those problems is to change the resolution, then change it back again. However that got on my nerves so right now I have had to disable sleep and disable the screen going to sleep and just use a screen saver.

Far from ideal, and fair to say that "Zerocore" simply does not work on my computer with any set of drivers I have tried.

And the same could simply be said about you, yes?

You come at me with your version of events over that $430 card and then tell me why I posted it. When it was clearly to demonstrate that Nvidia had been charging those sorts of prices for a good twelve years.

It had nothing to do with performance of course, but you then posted what that card was capable of.

Had you not missed the point I could have simply replied and said that up until those prices no other company had ever charged even half of that for a GPU, even a brand new one that had just come out.

Even going into the future a little more we had other companies. Matrox, Pyro, ETC. All of which fell by the wayside due to Nvidia's capability of brain washing people.

Now that doesn't mean to say I am accusing you of being brainwashed, but you are an Nvidia owner and you have tried to defend them. When all you needed to do in reality was accept that I am entitled to my opinions and simply left it there.

My opinions don't seem to match yours, so first comes the troll, then comes then comes the psychological assessment and then comes the insults (thinly veiled at first of course, simply saying you are going to ignore me because of your psychological assessment).

Hilariously I am probably the only 7970 owner who has dared to speak out about problems he has with his card. Most of them wouldn't bother, as it would go against them trying to justify spending £430 on a GPU.

Sometimes the truth hurts, other times it can be your friend.

Most of the problems for people seem to come from using 2 or more 7970's. As of yet I've had no problems at all.

To every one person having issues there are ten with none.

It just comes down to luck and personal experience really. And I have only ever had one ATI card in all of my life out of 6 all told that didn't give me any issues at all, and that was my 9200 Pro. It was flawless, and it never had any issues at all.
