The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

I am still suprised no one has commented on the following.

It does look like the boost is not consistent and works for only short periods

It uses dynamic scaling AFAIK depending on how much the GPU is loaded - those issues in the graph could just as much be due to unfinished development drivers as much as anything else.

We all know the score, this new card will be expensive and to save on R & D costs/ Maximise profits, they've made it only slightly more powerful than what's around now....if even that!

Nvidia probably aren't confident enough/ have enough resources to really push the boat out like they used to... or they cant get Kepler to work well enough..because something feels wrong; very wrong!

Nvidia aren't king of the hill like they were 6 years ago, because back then they would've blown AMD out of the water, this new card feels like a huge letdown.

i wouldn't have bothered with releasing a similar card, i would've waited till june and released something really ****ing big, a single card with 8 GB VRAM, with 85% more speed than a GTX 580...... why not, ready for DOOM 4 !................LOL...... let's hope the Chinese do

The score when overclocked... is virtually identical to the 7970. But the 7xxx series has some problems with Crossfire, while the 680 is possibly going to be bottlenecked at 1440/1600p due to only 2GB VRAM. And based upon the Euro pricing it's going to cost... exactly the same.

This reminds me of when I walked through ASDA the other day and noticed that virtually all the washing powder was priced exactly the same... to the penny. Where is the meaningful choice? Where is the competition?

hang around..... does it only have 2GB VRAM !!!!

If so that seals it for me, because it's the one thing the guys told me to get right..... ``forget about which card, make sure it has no less than 3GB``

Yeah it's a bit stingy man !

BTW off topic..

I just noticed you are from Lymington ! man that brings back some memories. Sure you have heard of Shorefields? I went there for 22 years haha.

Best part of the country I've ever been to. Love Milford on Sea !

It's not stingy at all. There is no evidence to suggest that anything over 2GB should be mainstream these days, right upto 1600p. The alternative: to stick 4GB on every card and to charge extra for it just because 1% of consumers will use it is not just bad engineering, it is bad economics.

there is no need at all in this day unless you are playing at some insane, crazy resolution to need anything more than 2GB VRAM, anyone telling you otherwise is just being stupid.

most mid-range cards with 1GB VRAM in Crossfire will handle more or less any games, with great frame-rates at the more 'normal' 1080P

the gamming nutters in New Milton said no less that 3GB and that's good enough for me

yea lymington is great, a bit quiet but a beautiful area to live especially in the summer

lmao New Milton. Yup, that tiny funny little train station where you have to be in the first three coaches or you step onto the tracks :D

Then on to Galleon Taxis and off for some fun.

It's the quiet I loved. I like being alone for the most part, so I would go off on walks :)

Last went in 2009. Hadn't changed much, but then that was what was so great about it.

Edit. Sorry, really ought to add some useful info :D

2GB is enough. Just. For right now as we sit with the latest game engines 2GB just about cuts it.

But, as we move into the future it could change. I think coders have realised now that to make a game beautiful whether they like it or not they are going to have to use enormous great bloated textures.

That would be why NFS : The Run* installs at over 17gb, and RAGE at over 20

I dread to think what the new engine they used to show that a single 680 is faster than three 580s uses

* I bought the game as Black Box decided to actually let the vsync option disable vsync and allow more than the console crap 30 FPS. Laughably it doesn't tear and I get around 100FPS which makes the game rather good.

A £400 card is not mainstream. Even a £300 card is not mainstream! :p

Still,I suspect websites like HardOCP will test multi-monitor gaming,so it will be possible to see if 2GB will do the job or not.

I think AMD missed a trick not releasing a 1.5GB HD7950 for around £300. OTH,I suspect there would be people who think the HD6970 has MOAR RAM and not buy it!! :p
