The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Wouldn't PCI-E bandwidth be a factor if system RAM is being used or is it a non-issue??

Not sure, but apparently it is an issue.

I remember years ago there were rumblings coming from Intel that onboard video and GPUs that share system memory would be the way of the future, but they ran into problems with speed. Mind you, this was back when it was 133mhz SDR.

Clock for clock both cards appear to be almost identical. There is likely to be zero noticeable difference between them. Sure, some games will favor the red or green team, but overall it will be a tie. GK104 may have taken two months longer to arrive, but perhaps that delay was spent on R&D, and that maybe why a card with seemingly inferior specs performs so well?

If thats the case then this will be reminiscent of 590 and 6990 battle where both of these were more or less at same performance level.

Seriously mate, don't take offence but I think you have got a serious issue with Kepler.

no, he's just fed up with expensive crap like this from Nvidia and i am too.

i'm hoping this new card is a disaster.... sales slump and prices drop, because when they do this will cause AMD to lower theirs, this is when i'll get a 7950 3GB....... or maybe two in SLI

you can buy next week, but the smart money is on waiting; because there are too many top end cards of similar performance for sale right now, the market is saturated and prices are going to tumble soon.

this will be the 4 th card on sale, that is a near clone of all the rest, 5 if you include the GTX 590..... this card is rare on this site, but is common on another !...... the GTX 590 interests me quite a lot

So you missed the lol then? Maybe I should upload an 800x800 pixel smiley.

I have no issues with Kepler itself, I just have issues with how it came to be and more importantly the company behind it.

This is a new gen card. 2GB vram is positively tight ass, especially when it won't be a cheap mid ranged card that it should have been.

I guess if you don't take issue at paying £450+ for a 2GB card that should have been a mid ranged part then all power to ya.

Well like you he doesn't have to buy it does he. Enjoy your ATI card mate, hope you have fun.

hang around..... does it only have 2GB VRAM !!!!

If so that seals it for me, because it's the one thing the guys told me to get right..... ``forget about which card, make sure it has no less than 3GB``
Is that because it is much better to have 2gb of VRAM sitting idle compared to just 1gb of idle VRAM within most games and at most resolutions? 4gb Kepler's will also be available, but they will not use even more VRAM. Why pay for something you do not need?

You can stick 16gb of ram in a PC, but 8gb will be just as fast 99% of the time Few games require more than 1.5gb at the moment anyway, unless you are one of the few people who use multi-screen.

No of course I don't have to buy it. I won't, either. I've already made my choice.

However, that doesn't mean I'm not allowed an opinion on it or that I don't care about it.

I strongly suspect that this "round" of Kepler was far cheaper for them to produce than the real home run hitting Kepler that's coming later this year will be.

It was always, in Nvidia's words "a mid ranged part".

So as I said, if you are fine in the knowing that they are going to charge you practically double what it is worth in terms of what they had to pay to get it to you? that's cool man.

It seems to me that they are taking the ball and running with it and it seems terribly greedy of them to do so. They are taking advantage of a market where they know they can.

And I don't like that and never will.

Why pay for something you do not need?

That was probably the philosophy that was doing the rounds when the single PCB GTX 295 came out. 896mb of vram is more than enough, and thus, spending £450+ or more on a card was a safe bet.

Yet, here we are two years later and the GTX 295 simply serves as a nice looking paperweight, depending on the sticker that was placed on it.

It didn't matter how much I lowered the detail in BF3, the card was just utterly useless. Even with the low resolution textures and everything disabled it still stuttered like an absolute pig.

So, like I said about Kepler, if you think that's worth £450+ (IE you could run into game ending trouble in less than two years)? then that's up to you.

Kepler will not be a cheap card. However, it is a cheap card. That is highly likely why it only carries 2gb of vram because it was designed to as it was designed to be a mainstream affordable card.

The issue, of course, is when you start trying to charge £450 for something you have rebranded a flagship, that clearly falls foul of the terms associated with that word.

That is where the cracks are starting to show.

If you have no desire to see Kepler do well, why are you here? You do nothing but slate something you have no intention of buying. Please stop berating something untill you see the official benches.

You hope this card is a disaster and if it is, you will never see a price drop on your beloved AMD.

what about TXAA Anti-aliasing and Adaptive V-Sync? If you will notice a substantial in image quality and smooth dynamic adjustments in fast paced games then Kepler is worth buying. I am not saying that you should go for 680, there are some cheaper cards to be selected from like 670 and 660ti.

I am still debating whether or not i should add another 570 or go with 670.

He can do as he pleases within the rules. There's no unwritten rule book about graphics cards and opinions.

And if he's dissatisfied, so be it.

Everyone was upset about AMD's pricing and there was many long winded threads, yet no one cried like everyone has been in here about negative opinions on an Nvidia card. It just screams double standards.
