The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

yes exactly, it's already less that 300 quid... plus by july down even more.

but if the 7970 drops to this price too, then you're in heaven, because this card OCs better than the 7950.

it'll be interesting for sure

Well I based my views on 7950 OC potential on the techpowerup review, basically it can clock just as high a 7970 on stock volts and hit 1220 core with volts, of course OC mileage will vary from card to card.

Another fact is at the same clocks there is nothing in it between the 7970 and 7950, if you OC there is really no need to even look at the 7970 or the 680 if the performance we have seen so far holds true.

You should factor in the overclocked performance of those cards as well.

Well I have factored in the 7970 but will have to see what the 680 does, even so the price saving is worth it IMO.

What, spend a whopping £300 on something that is 25% slower than the new GTX560 replacement (even if that is £400)?

.QUOTE]

yes definitely.... especially if 25% is only 10FPS.

because i'm on 1080p so i dont need anything that much anyway, yes i've already researched this, i'm going from 35FPS up to over 100FPS, so that's good enough for me..

this is where they're going wrong... they're releasing cards that are too powerful for Joe Average Serious Sam shooters !

i only have to get a card in the top 5 and i'll be ok and this is deffo the 7950

ok thanks.... even better, i stand pleasantly corrected !

Btw, what do you guys think they will use for the gtx660/gtx670?

Or will there even be a gtx660/gtx670?

If they're all using the same GK104 chip with disabled shaders then it could be interesting if we're able to unlock them.

no, it's if they ALL DROP IN PRICE, because they are all the same anyway, this new nvidia card is yet another 7970

If the gtx680 and 7970 are around the same performance and around the same price then the price will stay the same for a very long time.

Unless one under cuts the other but that won't happen because its bad for business.

And if either of the companies would to start a price war it would be AMD because they've made they're share already.

Don`t get why everyone is up in arms about these prices. As stated thousands of times in this thread the majority of you have a 1920x1080/1200 setup and any midrange GPU already out would be fine or what you already have. On the other hand if at 2560x1440 then you going to need two highend GPU`s to get the best out of it. (high res high price)

Just where do you people stand? I'm with the Highend and for that reason i needed xfire 7970 to do what i wanted. Are that many of you waited for this new GPU if so why?

I'm waiting for a single card to replace my power hungry, over heating gtx470's. :( (Did think of going watercooling)

I want this card to run Guild Wars 2 at 120fps! run cooler, use less power while still being relatively quiet. ;)

And because its a single card it will reduce the chances of any microstutter.

...I have a feeling I will be waiting quite some time though. :p

Its always nice to see whats coming up next though.

Do they really still blow up?

I thought they fixed that. :D

AFAIK they only ever blew up when people removed the throttling and tried running furmarks, tho I might be wrong on this but the only people I know that managed to kill them did it due to this - they may have died when overclocked under more normal circumstances but I can't find a single verified case of this.

Well, the 7970 isn't too far from GTX570 SLI, so if Kepler eats it, or even equalises, then you should be fine!:)

Apparently it was a driver issue.

NVIDIA Geforce GTX 590 Video Card Blows Up on Video - Forceware Drivers Blamed

We got an e-mail from a reader that a GeForce GTX 590 BYHD (Burn Your House Down) Edition was released by SweClockers, so we did a little searching and found out what they were talking about. It appears that some of the first NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590 video cards to ship come with Forceware 267.52 drivers and they don't prevent the card from overheating when overclocked and overvolting. The folks over at SweClockers cranked up the clock frequency and video taped the carnage. We didn't have this problem with 267.71 drivers we used for testing or the new 267.84 drivers that came out today. It was one year ago to the month that NVIDIA had a fan issue with Forceware 196.75 drivers that killed a number of video cards! Déjà vu!
