The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

How do you know the price range, I would say it could have been a lot more than £150-£200 looking at AMD's pricing if it was released under a different monica!
You read my post wrong, I said it the GTX660 was most likely to be around the £200-£250 range. Now they are selling them as "GTX680".

Performance progression for £2xx range has been a joke if we look at this last few gens, but not because of there's no progression has been made for GPU, but more to do with companys overpriced their products.

The cynic in me thinks Nvidia had nothing to counter Tahiti in Jan, and have re titled their GK110 that was coming out in Jan to "GK104", overclocked the nuts off it and are releasing now.

Think about it, if people who choose Nvidia think mid range Kepler is this good it keeps their interest right? Folks will think if GK104 is this good, GK110 must be amazing? You follow?

The US government also covered up the alien spacecraft incident in Roswell, New Mexico...

I think this is more a case of AMD fans refusing to believe that AMD's showing this round is quite so poor.

Whatever you want to tell yourselves, the numbers don't lie. It's a smaller chip with fewer transistors and it still matches or surpasses AMD's flagship.

Yes, I think also we may now find both manufacturers building double chip cards before we see the best possible 28nm single chip cards released....I was sure when I saw Nvidia's stacked power connectors they are making space for something ;)

That's interesting, Gibbo just said the only faster cards coming out from both camps this year will be double chip cards !....Think that explains the 680 designation then ;)

If it was supposed to be mid-range then the only thing to blame for the likely price it will command is AMD releasing a lacklustre high end part.

That's life though.

Because pricing is always dictated by market forces. Not on the cost or value of a product. Sadly, this is what happens in a world where AMD is just not competitive.

Doubt it, did anyone see the 580/570 coming 7 months after the 480? you can't predict what might or might not come in the GFX card business.

So my LAST rumour list about the GK104:
1.)There is no GTX670TI but only a GTX680 as the GTX670TI was a smokescreen - TRUE
2.)The GK104 was not called a GTX680 but Nvidia decided to do so now -MAYBE
3.)Initial cards did not have the magic bios, but after the magic bios were converted to GTX680 cards - UNKNOWN
5.)As fast as an HD7970 - ONLY IN SPECIFIC INSTANCES AT HIGH RESOLUTION
6.)Is 25% faster than an HD7970 - MORE LIKE NEARLY 20%
7.)The GPU can be overclocked by 40% on air. Is the overclocking MASTER and clockspeed MASTER - MIGHT ACHIEVE PARITY WITH THE HD7970 OR HIGHER
8.)Consumes less power than an HD7970 and is the performance per watt MASTER -YES
9.)Has lower TDP than an HD7970. Meant to be a 195W card - YES
10.)3DMark11 score 15% higher than HD7970 -YES
11.)Has a smaller die of under 300MM2 compared to the 365MM2 die of the HD7970 and less transistors. It is the performance per MM2 MASTER and performance per transistor MASTER -YES ALTHOUGH IS 319MM2 WHEN MEASURED
12.)Has 2GB or 4GB of VRAM -YES FOR THE 2GB.UNKNOWN FOR 4GB
13.)Can use system RAM - UNKNOWN
14.)Shorter PCB than a GTX570 -YES
15.)Was $299 but now $499 or $599 since Nvidia was disappointed with AMD -$499 CONFIRMED. CONJECTURE MAYBE
16.)Has backlit GEFORCE GTX logo on the top of the card -UNKNOWN
17.)Is the PhysX MASTER -MAYBE
18.)Has single card surround -YES
19.)Is the UE4 MASTER -UNKNOWN
20.)Has the same memory bandwidth as the GTX580. However,it is very efficient at using memory bandwidth and is the efficient memory bandwidth utilisation MASTER. - IT LOOKS THAT WAY
22.)Does some other stuff that I might go WTF at - SCARED
23.)Uses a Vapor chamber -YES
24.)Uses an HT like technology -UNKNOWN
25.)Uses a Turbo Boost like technology -YES
26.)Most of the rumours are not true at all - NO
27.)The card launches on the 22nd of March -YES
28.)The card launches on the 23rd of March -NO
29.)Availability will be poor at launch - MAYBE
30.)Availability will be great at launch -MAYBE
31.)Is the Nvidia Kato to the AMD Green Hornet -YES
32.)Is the KUNG FU MASTER - WOULD NEED A RING

Is there a CUDA bench as opposed to using openCL for benching that would provide a fairer comparison between the 580 and 680 in CUDA? that's what I'll be waiting on...

I had a quick look at an older review and at least in the OpenCL stuff the GTX580 and HD7870 were generally faster.

The Mediaexpresso and Luxmark review conditions have been changed for this review for some reason,so you cannot compare these to the HD7800 series for example. However, apart from one of the two Mediaexpresso benchmarks the GTX580 seems better overall.

Maybe, there will be some optimisations for the GTX680 over time but I suspect that the compute abilities have been stripped out and the GK110 will be the true test.

So things are now drawing to a close, GK104 is nvidias top end card, anyone expecting second gen Keplers this year are gonna have a long wait cause there isn't gonna be one according to Gibbo.

It's faster than a 7970 at stock and overclocks just as well as 7970's supposedly.

It's appaently going to be cheaper than ati's top end offering, runs cooler with less power and noise. This card sounds like a winner to me but the big question is will anyone with 7970's actually sell up to get a 680?
