The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Enjoy, :) You would be advised to wait until next week unless they have a £399 or less price tag though, I think there will be plenty around ;)

Gibbo has already stated that it will be cheaper than a 7970 which makes it under £400.

I am building my daughters boyfriend a PC, so he is getting my card and this gave me a great reason to upgrade.

No way I am waiting, with the news that Gibbo dished out today.

wow you've gotta (assuming the 680s clock well) feel rather sorry for the 7970 early adopters - the 2nd hand price of those will plummet now :(

always pays to wait it seems

Coming from a 1GB 5850, which card would you suggest for me; 680 or 7970?

I game at 1080p res and like to play games on atleast high setting.

I am always concerned about vram limitation as 1GB is constantly proving to have reached it's limit at my res.

In case anyone missed it, i'll ask again, anyone know what the clock speed of the 680 was on Toms Hardware review? 700mhz, 1006mhz? Higher, lower? Bruce Forsyth?

Kind of an important omission, and makes the review BS - Even though it's been pulled afaik.

Looking like a 680 would be a no-brainer at current 79** (and rumoured 680) prices.

However, I would run around the forums with a banana stuck up my (oh wait...), if the 79** don't get a serious price drop, which might make them more of an option.

The 680 was almost 20% faster than the 7970 at 1080P overall, at least in the games suite that Toms Hardware chose.

Hmm decisions, decisions!!

If 7970 does drop in price, then this may become an attractive buying option for me.

Oh well I have the choices available to me:)

Next few days will make it more clear as to which would be an attractive option considering performance/£ :)

The double precision performance being lower than the 580 is pretty disappointing for those of us using the devices for GPGPU. Will be interesting to see some other benchmarks...

I did say earlier in this thread that good things will come to those who wait, BUTT!! tbh if I hadn't have invested or wasn't remotely interested in 3d vision then I would have gone for a 7970 at launch and think i'd have stuck with it, it's a brilliant card and i've had to watch with envy those who purchased the card back in January as it walked over my gtx 580, because of my love for 3D vision I was tied to nvidia.

I look foward to my new gtx 680 and wish all those with ati's many hours of happy gaming. Cheers guys.

Neither. Wait until you can get HD7970 3GB or GTX680 2GB level GPU power for under £300.

Yeah, but that's only because HAWX2 is heavily biased towards nVidia hardware - the 680 was 40% faster with tessellation disabled. But it's irrelevant because you comparing 148fps to 207fps, which is more than enough even for 120Hz monitors. Heck, why is that game even included in benchmarks? Nobody plays it. It wasn't very good. It's not demanding. The only reason it's used is because nVidia puts it in their selection of games that reviewers must/should use. That said, the 680 performed better overall and that's what matters.

I'm interested to see a 680 SLI to 7970 Crossfire comparison, as I imagine the scaling will work to nVidia's advantage.

How long do you think it would take for this to happen?

I can wait for 7-8 months more, so till near the end of this year:)

Look at the TPU review of the HD7970 3GB:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_7970/28.html

Both the GTX680 and HD7970 should be around twice as fast as your HD5850 1GB(the advantage going to the GTX680) at 1920X1080 for around £400.

With newer DX11 games of course there will be a greater difference but, considering how much the HD5850 1GB cost and how old it is, the new cards could do with a price reduction IMHO.

Towards the end of the year I suspect refresh cards from AMD and Nvidia will be released too.

However, that is if you can wait and both cards would be a massive upgrade still.

It wasn't the review, it was all of the images from it, ie the benchmarks.

Yeah I can wait till then:)

Tbh not much in hurry as my 5850 copes well at 1080p res.
