The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

No you don't, what you need to take into account is techpowerup's crapness. Since launch they've consistently made "mistakes" with drivers, broken xfire in games AMD dominated, removed games AMD dominated.

They've also added such technically up to date marvels with great tessellation and modern effects such as.......... World of Warcraft, you may be familiar with it, it looks fantastic and being pro Nvidia has nothing to do with the fact it looks massively better than Call of Juarez, incidentally not a DX10 and definitely looks way worse than World of Warcraft.... wait, something wasn't quite right there.

Also lol at trying to suggest a 480gtx is close to a 7970 with an "all resolutions" round up comparison of a VERY bad choice of games, which is very pro Nvidia and incredibly CPU limited.

I guess that proves that NVidia have either made bigger advances with their drivers or the architecture was more forward thinking because the difference now is quite a bit wider.

I suspect it's modern games using more tesselation and the vram starting to bite.

You need to take into account modern shader and tesselation intensive games, where Fermi has a clear advantage over the 5800's.

I specifically said at launch, in modern benchmarks the gulf is widening between 5870 and 480.

These days and last year the 480 is now looking great @£185

this thread should be locked until launch or at least til some credible backed up benchmarks are released, i guess im not the only ones life this is eating up lol, sick of coming to this thread to only see green vs red.

lol. It is only people passionate about a brand. It is human nature to defend something you like.

Here is some true solid Kepler info for you.

It's going to be a Hot, power hungry, 10% faster at best over priced piece of ****

That is all.

How about you leave and do not come back, along with the other uninformed derps?

He sounds like a broken record, eh?

Plus this thread doesn't need to end because someone spends too much time on it...

Looks a hefty cooling system.

Yeah, now I get why they needed to stack the power connectors. :p

Is it me or is the card kinda short?

Like compared to the gtx580.

It's short. But that's because it's not in the class of the GTX 580 no matter what they call it. 580 was high-end Fermi. The 680 is designed to be mid-range Kepler. Being the fastest card when it's released by virtue of being the only card does not make it high end, because 'GK104 is the fastest kepler GPU' is only vacuously true.

I estimate it to be between a GTX560TI and GTX570 in length. Also, using stacked power connectors means the PCB is probably a bit shorter than using the normal arrangement.

The card seems to be using an 8+6 PCI-E power connectors.

no way, this thread is comedy gold

plus it is going to be an absolute goldmine for quoteable quotes on assertions that people have made

I don't understand why 10% faster than a 7970 would be bad. The 7970 is a very very quick card and much faster than the 580, so if nvidias nooby card just managed to match the 7970 I would be very happy, the 10% increase would be a bonus.

I would have gone for the 7970 without a doubt if I had not invested in 3D vision.
I love nvidia and sit here very patiently waiting for Kepler. The 7970 is also a fantastic card, I come on here looking for news on Kepler and just see childest banter and attacks on both ATI and Nvidia products. Just make your choice and enjoy. Simples.

Stacking the PCI-E power connectors is about the dumbest thing I've seen, your average muppet will be able to break the board/track bond far to easily...besides the mounting for "board level" connector is there anyway !

+ blocking half the cooler exhaust with another DVI is also about as intelligent !

None of know how much cooling is going to be required. It's not ideal but for all we know suitable for the heat dissipation required.

It's not like reference coolers have ever been perfect and anyone who needs superior cooling for OC headroom (If there is any) can go aftermarket!
