The G.E.C.K - Vault Tec component.

Well at least you have a nice power supply for your zero-footprint CNC *sigh*
I feel you on the lugging stuff about in 30° heat. We finally moved house so there's been the most amount of lugging ever recorded! And I still can't use the CNC either. More workshop space now....but it's full of crates and boxes of...everything. Literally been climbing up, over and back down to get to things we need....if I can find them! I seem to have inherited a workbench too. I think it's got 5½ wheels so at min it needs some attention. Might be good, I can't tell until there's enough space to check it out - turns out that 3 workbenches stacked front to back in a single garage takes up all the space - who'd have thought! Getting there slowly though. Next step is to rip the roof off the rear extension - which will be fun. On the plus side, an open roof is almost guaranteed to result in some rain for the rest of you!

Not least, the case study in why you don't put carpet in a toilet!
Some people are beyond idiotic and gross. The significant black mould problem in my old bathroom came about because some chud glossed the ceiling and put wallpaper up, but never had an extractor fan and the window was tiny. Told the landlord he was a muppet and this will become an issue when I first moved in, 20+ years later I was washing at work because it was a death trap.

Nothing to report.

It’s been hot again and I just can’t in this heat. Hopefully it’ll fall off next week because this week is all just heat.

They sure look pretty.

I’ve now marked out where the power connector hole needs to be and the size.

This heat is crippling me. Seriously it makes my arthritis so bad I can barely walk ffs.

OK no pic update.

I’ve now drawn out the final panel. Spent two weeks deliberating on it. When I ran a simulation it seems the 1.59mm bit would miss fine detail. The largest bit I can get away with is 1.2mm. Guess what? I didn’t have any lmao. I daren’t use a 0.8 as it would take around 7 hours and besides there’s a high chance it would snap too.

So I ordered some. Noting they have doubled in price since last year.

I also realised being on the PC is too uncomfortable for me due to the infection that I’ve had all summer. So I’m going to use the laptop. But of course no free power sockets so I’ve ordered some doublers coming tomorrow.

OK got a lil something done.

I forgot that when I did the yellow logo insert piece that I’d deliberately left the yellow fixed to the bed as I needed a small square piece. Basically the “tang” on the BC250 is how I need to mount the non business end. I need an 8mm block so obs 3mm + 5mm in blue is spot on, hence why I’d left it stuck down. Setups take about 30 mins and use material. One is free (Amamong envelopes) and the other expensive (Kipp tape).

So yeah TL;DR version is I’ve now made that piece, as well as making the cover plate for the floor so the 8 pin PCIE can be connected without playing a game of hand twister.

Tomorrow I’ll cut that access hole in the bottom, then tap some M3 holes to attach the cover to.

I then stuck down the bottom and cut out the access hole. Whilst there I cut the blue piece from the hole itself at the same time. Waste not want not lol.

Drilled two 2.5mm holes to tap to M3 then realised it has been 10 months since I last used the M3 tap which has gone for a walk somewhere. Have ordered two and they’ll come tomorrow.

I’m going to start work on the other side panel tomorrow. Bloody long job that’s going to be !

I bet you have all the M4 taps you could shake a stick at though...as long as they're completely useless to you, of course!

If you're doing this on your CNC, have you looked at thread milling? I think M3 is probably about the smallest you'll get away with (if it isn't, someone will be along in just a sec to comment what an idiot I am! ;) ) but you can make your hole with an endmill as per norm (ramp down in a helix) and then thread all the holes before you remove the part from the CNC. Definitely worth doing if you have a perimeter of holes like on a water block.

Done some M3 in Aluminium which made a grown man cry, pinged a good few M4 taps too trying it in ally. Then we realised that the CNC was not outputting the RPM it should have been so while it thought it was turning at the correct rate it was twisting too much for each mm it went down, either stripping the hole or breaking the tap....what a fun few days that was.

If you do plan on trying tapping on the CNC please experiment on a scrap piece first....don't ask how I know OK!

Snapping bits becomes a way of life in CNC lmao.

OK I dropped some M2 in to see if it’s straight. It is, so that’s good.

Taps will come at some point today.

Here’s a funny one..

So due to my arthritis and not wanting to fall when peeing in the night I have a Google nest set up to control the lights.

Whenever I run the machine as I’m leaving the bedroom I call out to turn the light off. What I didn’t realise is when there’s noise it self adapts and literally shouts so loud “OK TURNING OFF THE BEDROOM!!!”. I absolutely cacked my pants and probably jumped two feet in the air. Dumb thing is I keep forgetting about it so it scares the crap out of me every time lmao.

OK the longest “negative “ I’ve ever made. Just over four hours.

Let the cursing begin in earnest tomorrow when it starts flinging tiny pieces to be lost forever lmao. I have a feeling I’ll be running it more than once!

You're going to cut out all the little inlay pieces separately? Yikes. Safety glasses Knight's helmet with visor at the ready then!
Might not work for this one but is there another way of doing it without separating all the bits off? For example, in this situation you could cut the mirror image out of yellow but not cut all the way through. When finished, drop the lot into the negative space, stick it down and then machine the rest of the yellow off the top. Downside is the top of the yellow wouldn't be shiny...but chunks of your walls, furniture, ceilings etc also wouldn't be yellow! :D
