The great 30-70 thread

Do you mean travelling along at 30 then flooring it or just the time it takes to go from 30-70? I can get to 70 in 1st gear.
Very good question. I assumed the OP meant cruising at a steady 30mph and then flooring it and starting the clock at the same time. Caning it from below 30mph and then timing the duration between the needle passing 30 and 70 will obviously be quicker and is really cheating :)

Which makes Gibbo's time look impressive.

Nope my time was based on cruising along at 30mph and then flooring it upto 70mph. The car is just plain quick! :D If I'd have a floored it from 10mph and just timed the elapsed time between 30-70mph from flooring it from a lower speed it would have been even quicker....

So to save any confusion my 2.8s is based from cruising at 30mph in 2nd and then flooring it upto 70mph. :)

Probably around 2-3s on my bike in 2nd :D

About the same for me, perhaps a tiny bit quicker with having the race can on freeing up the response in the midrange :)

Thinking about it my bike will do about 75 in 1st, so from 30 i would guess that in a good day without the front coming up too high we could see sub 2.5's :)

that the way i was meaning :)

as soon as you boot it at a steady 30 you start the timer

Yup. :)

Think Fireblade has got a little confused as I think he thinks my time is based from booting it from a much lower speed which would further improve times, except mine is not, though due to how responsive it is on throttle response I doubt it would make much difference. :)

Might be faster than a Mac F1 then :p

Hi there

Got it here on my PC, anybody wanna upload it for me?

Here ya go, just uploaded it myself:-

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/r.gibbson/clips/flyby2.AVI

From watching the video I do actually floor it just before 30mph I think still its gonna have little effect on the end result. :)

From watching the video its anywhere between 2.8-3.3s I'd have said.... :)

Crikey - thats a tad snappy! Your estimate sounds about right to me, doing the 1000-2000-3000 counting style gets me to 3 and a bit seconds.

That is 30-70 on the speedo too of course, no denying it is fast but I doubt it is sub 5 seconds. Doesn't even look like you hit 70 on the vid

Very true when I did it I was holding camera in one hand and floored it upto around 7000rpm. If you play it in slow motion or by frame you do see the needle hover around 70mph and then I let off and let it slow down with engine de-acceleration.
Though I am quite sure that to do at most another 5mph in case I was just short of 70mph or speedo in-accuracy, that it would not take upto another 2s m8, at most it would be a 100th/200th of a second. ;)
The manual does state that 2nd is good for about 75mph. :)

80hp more on a 320hp car does not half the 30-70 time

Well the evidence is there in video m8, there is no denying the footage its evidence that the car is indeed covering 30-70mph pretty damn quickly. :)
Also whats this 80hp more business? My 3000GT is not 400BHP, I wish.
