The Hunter

hopefully you're not running :p

read the site, there's some decent tips on the hunters guide and stuff.

Haha yeah had a fairly easy long distant shot, but didn't read the full controlls to see you could hold your breath! Nevermind, will find one :p

My God what a game. Very addictive.

One question though, my fps are terrible which aint helping me look out. Is there any way I can bring up the FPS?

Cheers guys.

Drop the resolution to 1280 or 1024 and put the texture detail/settings all down to medium?!

Thats what I play it in, seems to run a bit smoother and I find it easier to pickup on the red tracking markers for some reason!

well I never thought I would actually bother with a game like this, but for free and from what you guys have been talking about I'm game! :P

Can you actually hunt in groups in this or is it purely a single person alone in the woods :P

I posted this on our DMP-racing forums recently. Although I'm still on the freebie I'm thinking about the payware version. Although transport options have now been deleted from the equipment menu's. I have a pretty good time with it.

I really admire the games engine and graphics/scenery which is well up there. Not yet being able to traverse water yet if a pain. I can see this game going down some very interesting avenues in the future though. Like winter hunting in the snow. Wild game hunting in Africa, things like that.

Patience, and resist the temptation to move like you got a rash. Locate, track a bit, lure when within say a couple of hundred feet. Never run when closer than say 500 ft, they get spooked easy, ears like radar. Crouch n crawl only at this point. Assume they are gonna head straight for the lure so move away 20 yards or so. Maybe pop back once (no more than once) and lure again. Never lure more than twice in ten mins. Stay down when they're closing. Boom headshot. If you're gps thingy isn't registering movement (noise meter top of gps screen) after 2nd call, assume you're either too far away, or they just got laid already.

Field of view is key. Draw them out across a field or open area. Roads are pretty good for this but theres less rewarding feel to that. Fields/open glades etc are prime time. Stay North side of the map. 2pm or later there appear to be less deer but bigger/heavier when they do come.

Thats it pretty much in a nut shell. I still suck. Jr's still king dawgin with his freak 12 point white tail the other week. I hate that. I don't know if I'm gonna renew iRacing or this thing yet lol.

I got as far as finding some poo , then toddler woke up and that was that.
May have to try again later. Although this game really needs a good few uninterrupted hours I guess.

Absolutely. It simulates deer hunting. It isn't BF2, and you need relative quiet.
Hmm I have the patience (points pto his thief 2 stats of no kills, no times spotted (but huge piles of unconcious guards, butlers and passers by)). However with a two-year old quiet free time is pretty rare.:(

well i got my first kill tonight. took me nearly 2 hours but of course 40% of that was trying to figure out what to do!

I was tracking one mule and then when I finally located it I found it was with another! Couldnt get them both mind as the other one soon legged it and I feared if I didnt keep an eye on my kill I would lose my bearings to it fairly quickly and then not have a confirmed kill! When I did check it I had just got it in the neck right next to the head so an instant kill was my reward! :D

The actual walking around trying to find something is interesting. I think the key is to use the mule noise thing every now and again. Eventually you will get a reply and then the hunt is on!

Killed my first deer earlier today, followed one for ages, then it disappeared, and i heard another about 300ft away, killed it about 361ft..then shortly after had a shot at another, assuming i shot it in the neck, obviously missed/wounded it :(

Good advice a few posts up...

It's quite nice just wandering around in the forest. I did that quite a lot in Oblivion as well. Although this doesn't have possibility of being splatted by minotaurs.

Had an excellent run last night :) 2 hours hunting, 8 bullets 7 kills, 6 of them stags. Largest was a 220lb 12pointer at 557ft, shot in the head :) He was happily grazing in a meadow as I approached it from the road, clear as day! I made a call so that he turned toward me and the rest is history.

I loves this game, but a quicker way to the middle of the isle is definitely required.

I had a game last nigth after work for ~1hour. Found a trail, followed about 8 red beacons (4 of them saying 3rd red marker he is close kinda thing). Then lost him and got annoyed.

Went back 10mins later after a break and it really started to annoy me as I was wondering around for ages, trying the call, staying low, walking, absolutley everything; and I didn't find one red trail, hear one call or anything. Nadda. At least 3000m walked, and **** all!!

Really ****ed me off.

Were you crouching/prone when you started to get close?
They will spot you if you're moving above the grassline. They can hear you too if there is low ambient noise (your huntermate measures ambient noise btw).

When you get that close, stop chasing them. Find a good spot and use the lure. You'll know what way it will approach you from and you're set. Dont try and track it all the way to the deers arse, you'll likely spook it.
