Count the points (ends) on the antlers.
There are 8 points on that one, same on the other side, making this a 16pt deer.
Ambient sound (wind in trees mainly) shows roughly how much noise you have covering your movement. It also shows volume of animal calls.
It does not register your own sound.

Again, it's a patient 'game'...you have to play it rather than run around hoping to seek a deer and shoot it.
Almost like real hunting, just ,more fun.
spent hrs following some big elk but everytime i got within distance one younger one would spook them so easily 
they would run another 5oo yards.in end time ran out and had to go back to lodge with no elk 
been trying to get range turkey top spot on leader board as its not that far.

Yeah i had the same problem with a big elk yesterday, ran out of time too .
Was going to stop playing but shot myself a Mule Deer at the end of the last sessions so got the urge to go shooting again

It is made a little harder by having to use a no scoped rifle to shoot the elk.

Can be very frustrating , but, rewarding at the same time.
Anyone know the time frame for getting on the big island?
I assume there will be vehicles available when that happens or a lot more spawn points as the island is huge.

I pretty much lost this weekend to the game again. Not a fan of having to shoot Elk with a bust non-scoped gun so will get on to them later!
There's lots more deer around since the update though. I saw a herd of about 10 at the first tower to the south at about 7am. Seen loads since although all animals spook much easier now.
The Turkey's behaviour has changed most of all though. Much harder to just prone-move through 20 of them and chooose the biggest now!

After a surge of activity over the holiday weekend, players have now clocked-up over 6 million minutes of expedition time since March 1st!
That's over 11 years of hunting in less than 6 weeks.
This is the total duration of actual expeditions, and DOESN'T include all of the time spent in the social space, discussing missions with NPCs, messaging, uploading and viewing gallery images, checking the new stats pages, and all the rest!
Latest Fixes
Some issues were spotted over the weekend with the new 30-06 rifle, and a patch is in test for that now. Expect a small new download tomorrow, 15 April.
Also, some people are experiencing graphical issues with the new version, and an update of your graphics drivers is highly recommended to all players to fix this.

Downloading now been watching his thread for awhile, so we shall see!
Edit - Spent ages following countless tracks, totaly boring was about to log off when i noticed 3 mulling about in a field. this was it, i snuck up to some trees lined up my rifle and missed! hehe what a rush though
