The Indoor Riding/ Zwift/ TrainerRoad etc. Thread

well I finished printing them, got 8 tennis balls for £10 and it’s all setup. Seems to give a lot of extra cushioning and “movement” in the rear end. Doesn’t feel weird at all, more natural if anything.

650ish grams of filament
16 hours to print
£10 of tennis balls
5 mins to install.

So around £20 all in. Pretty good.

Looks like they have come out great, have to let me know how you get on

did a 1hr 30 ride yesterday, much better! adds a lot of movement to the bike it self and it feels more natural, the grip is an issue but on rubber mat they have not moved so that's good. All in, comfort wise, it's a huge improvement for me.

Linky? And can you put them on a KICKR v5? :)

I presume you can depending on the feet but looks like Etsy has a few people who either have designed their own and print them and sell or have got a model from somewhere.

Example.

This is the file I used if anyone has a 3d printer and want to print one out.

Used PETG for it and it seems strong enough.

Cockpit is now set, im a proper zwifter now right, gcn while on a workout??

I changed my chain and cassette recently, and now on the smallest couple of gears the setup creates an incredibly loud rumbling sound. Any ideas as to why?

It's totally fine on the bigger gears

Looks like the bank might be willing to lend more cash than initially expected, which puts me back to looking at turbos.

Still a bit torn between a Wattbike Atom V2 or a Kickr Core with Zwift hub and an old bike which will fit, but will likely swap in some drop bars and maybe TT style bars.

The Wattbike is a little more expensive along with the risk of buying it used so you're never sure how it's been treated. On the flip side it's a nicer "feeling" indoor bike.

I'm definitely happy I 'traded up' from a direct drive trainer to a fixed bike. I think it feels more comfortable (maybe more natural?) and I think I've ridden more indoors than I would have if I kept to DD trainer, mind you, I was removing and putting a bike on and off each time.

Yeah, i definitely wouldn't want to be swapping bikes around. I'm meant to be seeing my parents this weekend so might get them to bring my dads old rusty bike and see how it is. I have a spare seatpost and saddle, and so just need the frame/cranks really. My current concern with the Zwift cog and the virtual shifter is that it ties you to Zwift i think without some effort on workarounds. I don't really want to pay for Zwift so would be aiming for Mywhoosh probably on my old works laptop. However i also don't want to be reliant on the normal bike drivetrain. I've a Shimano Tourney crankset somewhere but i guess it then depends on BB sizing.

The other option is to just suck it up and get some decent lights and get outside. If i want to do some endurance rides then i need to be confident riding in the dark.

You can use a DD turbo with Zwift cog on other apps if you are just using ERG mode to follow a workout. The new Jetblack Victory which is getting some very good reviews currently ships with a Zwift cog but you can swap a normal cassette on - DC Rainmaker covers it in his review video.

Yeah think you mentioned it previously. Similar price to the Kickr Core too so might give the DCR videos a watch.

Think it's going to come down to the condition of my dads bike when i check it in person. If it's usable and just needs a new chain, then i'll go DD turbo and use that and maybe add drop bars in the future. If it's a complete mess and needs binning then the Wattbike is probably the way forward.

Totally agree with the this. I wasn't even swapping out each time, its just such a much better experience which encourages me to use it more and therefore helping to justify the purchase!

If I was doing it again though and had some budget limitations I would be buying the zwift frame and use second hand trainers. There's loads on FB marketplace at knock down prices.
