*** The iPad Air thread ***

2GB not bothering me here... It's by far the nicest tablet I've ever used. Don't get me wrong android based tablets have come on leaps and bounds, but they don't come close to the feel of a fast iPad.

I'm no fan boy either, I have a s4 and love it, but when a five inch iPhone comes out I'm opting out of android :-)

My only criticism so far is all the weight saving makes it feel hollow when typing or using the touch screen...... But it's worth the trade off in weight

I returned my iPad today and got a refund because of the reboot problems and the weight. I'm going to wait for the new generation mini instead.

+1

I'm waiting to upgrade my Mini to a Mini 2, Coming from a iPad 3 and 4 I just love the form factor and couldn't go back!

I also have a SG3 and have nothing at all against Android but if iPhone 6 uses a larger screen I'm getting one, Apple stuff is just so nice :)

Lots of oddness within caching.
I find with more than one tab if you open a second say a picture link it reloads the whole of the original page when you return.
The ipad two did this a bit, but not full reloads every single tab flick, seems strange, maybe it does it in os7 also.

Crashes on gmail quite a bit, unsure why.
Also seems to log into old accounts, or at least show the last page of an old, account when you log into a different one, even with clearing history between login and logout.
Very strange.

I really wish it had 2GB, I already found 1GB a bit limiting on the iPad 4, it would need to reload web pages and so on. Now with 64bit apps will take 30% more memory so it will only get worse. It's not a deal break but would be nice to have more memory and therefore not need me to reload things. Should also help with battery life things like games and webpages don't also need to reload.

Oddly just realised the reloads in safari happen much lessin landscape mode, strange.

It's not strange at all... In landscape there is less content displayed on screen. I suspect safari tries to preload / render X amount of pages content offscreen ready for scrolling so it runs out of ram much faster in portrait when tabs open.

I'm not a heavy user of tabs and never tend to have more than two open, I surf in one tab and only open another when following a link.... It would do my head in from a OCD perspective having lots of tabs open lol

This is my first iPad with retina. I never knew how much of a difference retina is until just now when I've put it up against a mini. Really is night and day.

The tbs can be ocuk forums and msn outlook webpage.
Text pages, minimal gfx.
What can it be trying to,load or cache?

Not sure where to place this, so here will do.

Does anyone know if Apple participate in Black Friday? I'm holding of for the Mini with Retina, but am weighing up the likelihood of them running out of stock (assuming a 21 November release date) with the possibility of saving a few quid to put towards a cover.

They usually have a few small price reductions for Black Friday but frankly the chances of the retina Mini being included, even if it's released in time, are zilch. A brand new product that's in high demand with very limited supply? No chance I'm afraid.
