*** The iPhone 3G S Thread - All iPhone 3G S Related Stuff In Here ***

O2 are sending me a new sim card. Another question now as I reset my old 2g device but now it's asking for a sim which of course is now in my new iPhone. Do I need a sim to use it purely as an iPod?

You do to activate it but once it's activated it'll work fine without a sim in it, aside from a message on bootup complaining that no sim is inserted.

Well at present Tom Tom 7 is £89.95 for Western Europe version on an SD card for other mobiles.

As this will be available from iTunes store I think it will be the same cost as if you were to get it on an SD card.

Quick question guys - anyone got the Power Support Crystal/Anti-Glare films on their iPhone? Which of the two is the best? They areboth on the Apple Store...

Was gonna get something else (FullBodyFilms) but seems I can only import from US and I cba with that, while Im getting reports that Martin Fields quality has gone downhill (the cut not the film itself)...

ps3ud0

Depends on what you're doing. I haven't really played with my 3GS enough to draw a proper conclusion on battery life but when I first got my 3G the battery didn't last very long. After a few days of owning it, it seemed to last longer - not sure if it's because the new factor wore off and I wasn't playing about with it as much or if it did just take a couple of charges to sort itself out.

So far though I haven't charged it since I got it on Friday and it's sat at 63%, but my sim remained in my old 3G until some point yesterday so I haven't really been using it.

I tell you something. The battery life is """""""" """""" poor on 3.0. both my two mates with it say the same thing. I have been silverstone this weekend and had to charge my phone twice only to pump half juice into it and I have made three 5 min phone calls and this is with almost everything switched off.

I then noticed Push services. so I turned that off and things seem to be a lot better.
Is anyone else seeing massive decreases in battery due to push notifications?

I have noticed the battery lasts longer but by how much I don't know. I have push notification off.

Has anyone noticed if you play the same video on a 3g alongside a 3gs the 3gs has more natural colours. The 3g has a tinge to it.

To previous poster - 3 5min calls and you have to charge it . That doesn't sound right at all.

I suspect the bold bit is important. You're in a place with 100,000 other people, a significant percentage of those will be using phones on the same network and the bandwidth is going to be seriously compromised. Everyone's phones will be talking a lot more negotiating traffic and the battery will suffer badly.

How long does the batt last for you guys?

Mine racked up 3 hours XX minutes useage? ;/

Bit concerned regarding the battery usage and how to maximise it.
With light use my wife has needed to recharge hers for approx 2 hours each day since friday as its been runnign to flat with a bit of net browsing and app usage.

Seems to eat batteries, i'd have hated to use a 3g with its poorer battery performance. Wondering if we've an issue?

Ok to max battery keep the brightness to about 10% if you can. I put it on auto-brightness. Make sure push is set to manual and when you're out turn off wifi.

I seem to get quite a lot of my battery. Once i've charged it to 100% what do you guys want me to test it on?:)

I don't mind testing it. It'll give me an idea too.

Doesnt that defeat the point?

what's that? Once I set it up at 10% and it's just comfortably tolerable in the house when I go out and it's brighter out 10% won't be bright enough so I'll have to turn it up to see the screen so hopefully with auto-brightness it'll up the brightness enough without me manually having to turn if up. At 10% in bright light on 'set' it's not enough.:D

whoo! One post away from a thousand lol.

Anyone finding the voice stuff a bit hit and miss? Not sure if it "learns" your voice after a while. Its seems much faster than my old 3G especially opening websites. Just a note for those getting a PAYG phone, if you mention you have an 02 contract they dont give a you PAYG sim unless you ask them for one and pay to top it up. This was from a 02 shop not sure if its the policy everywhere but i was quite surprised that they didnt mention this until i got the phone home and phoned them up about it.
