  • iPhone 3G S 32GB - £538.30

was planing on gettign a 32gb one but looks like i might need to get rid of some of my musicand go for the 16 :( loved the idea of having all my music on a phone that can atuchaly play music well aswell as the other aspects of a iphone but at close to 600pounds once you add the charger, case and other bits and bobs its a lot of money.
even the 16gb ones are very costy, is this the comfirmed prices, rumbers or a leeked sauce? was hoping for it to be around 450pounds for the 32gb version...

Well seeing as i've managed to navigate quite nicely with my current iPhone 2G, if they think they can charge > £50 for the app then they can get stuffed.

My names down at the Bristol O2 store, bring on the 19th!

The TomTom SD cards for PDAs are £90, so remove shipping & handing and SD card costs and we'll still probably see £50 or over for the app alone, but I'm expecting at around £50 and £30-£40 for the cradle.

This really was the main feature I wanted and if the cradle also doubles as a hands free I can't lose by buying it, so logn as the price isn't silly.

Well this all sounds like an absolute load of large salty ones.. What exactly is this new phone going to be able to do a current 3G can't once they're both on OS 3.0? Direct me north?

I'm very glad there is not enough new stuff there for me (personally, be your own judge obviously) to warrant spending 400 odd bones to get one, that and it not looking very different, I hate this metal band, ruins a lot of the sleekness for me.

Question about this tethering lark. How can o2 tell what is tethered bandwidth and what is iphone browsing bandwidth?

Its just I was able to use my tmobile web n walk and never got billed for it when using it in a tehtered mode

Kimbie

If I was to buy a Payg iPhone and put my current iPhone sim in it

Would this work?

Yes, which is why I think those on contract are better off just buying the PAYG versions in the future and shoving in their SIMs.

This way, you're contract doesn't have to be re-started etc.

Technically, they can't (data is data) unless there is a installing tethering app required to login (on the PC/Mac)

I'm bored of A-Level physics revision for tomorrows exams so am trying to work out what's the best way for me, having got an iPhone 3G at launch...

First of all:  @ O2 not being like AT&T and having a proper upgrade scheme.

As I see it:

  • Buy 32GB 3G for £538.30 on Pay-as-you-go.
[*]Put iPhone 3G Contract £35 SIM into it.
[*]Sell 11month old iPhone 3G 16GB with unlimited data Pay-as-you-go SIM on eBay for £300 or Envirofone for £200.
[*]Use iPhone 3G 32GB with iPhone 3G contract SIM until contract over.
[*]In January '10 the iPhone 3G 18month contract will be over so switch to £20 Simplicity.
[*]From January '10 be having a rolling contract with double the texts for £15 less a month.

That sound like the best way of doing it?

If you switch to Simplicity how will you be on a rolling contract?

Surely it's easier to..

[*]Purchase iPhone 4 in June 2010, repeat process..

I'm interested in this Simplicity offer, if it is indeed less for the same entitlements etc

More than likely a program (No doubt something incorporated into a new iTunes or similar) to link up your phone to your laptop. This will then put the phone into 'tethered' mode which can't use the Wifi Hotspots without the o2 bolt on.

I don't see this impacting on the current jailbreak method of tethering where as far as o2 are concerned all data stops at the phone.

Just had another look at the site.

On the Simplicity one month contract there's 600mins 1200texts and unlimited web bolt-on for £19.58.
Currently I'm on iPhone 3G £35 eighteen month contract (till January) so getting 600mins 500texts unlimited web and unlimited Clould/Openzone WiFi for £34.26.

Starting to look a little bit better for us iPhone 3G contracter's...

Me too, if this offer is still available in January I may switch over

EDIT: It says usage policy.. I wonder how much they count on this tariff?

Hmmm...only issue with simplicity if insurance!

Wouldn't like to drop my £500 iphone :(

I've never had insurance, but surely you could claim off your house insurance if it did get dropped "in the kitchen" *ahem*

Ditto.

Re-insurance: I found that my parents bank account covers two phones so got my 3G covered through that.

By putting a 3G Contract SIM into a pay-as-you-go 3G are we going to lose the call waiting/visual voicemail stuff? Or will that still be fine?

I believe the Visual Voicemail feature is tied to the iPhone tariff(s), so it would work on a PAYG handset, but not if you left / changed tariff.
