I dont mean to offend some people but

If you sign an 18 month contract its and 18 month contract. You knew new iPhones were in the pipeline so either pay up to get out of your contract or live with it. O2 aren't screwing anyone, they are a business and you signed an agreement. Far too many people whinging about the price and the fact they signed an 18 month contract. O2 will have worked out the best price to make them the most money, simple, and it will work as a lot of people will still buy the phone.

Well put, tsinc. I know full well that I can't get a new phone on my contract until next year and I don't have a problem with that.

I made my own contribution to the FUUUUU- meme.

Hmm... i'm a new o2 customer, and will be getting the iPhone with a new contract.

I have done some calculations and basically i think i have two possible options.

A) Take up new contract and get the 3GS 16GB for £184.98+(£34.26*18) = £814.62

For that i get 600 mins, 500 texts, unlimited data.

B) Buy 3GS 16GB Pay+Go for £440.40. Then get a Simplicity £20PM SIM (£19.58*18). Over 18 months with the cost of the Pay+Go handset this works out to £792.84.

And for that i get 600 mins, 1200 texts, unlimited data. And because its not contract i can cancel at any time, and drop down to Pay+GO. Will make upgrading next year easier also :)

It's a no brainer to buy the phone pay+go and put a £20 simplicity in, you get double the text and no tie-ins!

I noticed that AT&T are taking pre-orders of the new iPhones for launch day, does anyone know if O2 take pre-orders? Or do you think it'll be easy enough to get one, i.e. demand not too high?

Apparently, they won't be taking pre-orders - It's "First Come, First Serve" :p

I wonder what the supply/demand is going to be like? I would love to get one on the 19th but don't want to queue through the night just to get one.

I'm betting there's limited availability, as it was last time.

Call your local 02 store the day before and ask (best bet).

Would a simplicity simcard work in there so you can get your unlimited data / wifi?

I currently havn't got an iPhone of any sorts so its all new to me, Im a Nokia man :p Was waiting for the N97 but the iPhone 3Gs 16GB is making me want to change :D

£440 for a 3Gs 16GB on PAYG then to pay £30+ on the PAYG simcard to get the unlimited texts seems a little steep to me :p

A good idea, but one flaw is that you have to buy the phone for £440.40, and a lot of people, including myself do not have this money to hand.

yeah it requires needing the money to hand, but it seems a better deal over the 18 months if you can afford to do it. It's basically double the texts, with ability to upgrade whenever since your not really contracted in :)

If I bought an Iphone 3GS PAYG and put a simplicity sim in it - would I lose features?

I'm guessing so but it's annoying as I'd be staying with O2 :/

I'm interested in that too. From what I can work out its probably the visual voicemail that would be lost. No idea if it would need to be jailbroken or unlocked to work.

I'm currently on simplicity £15, so no biggie to upgrade to the £20 for the unlimited data. On the other hand I seem to be making less and less calls and texts so it may make sense to move to PAYG - I'd have to work the costs out over the last few months.

omg I just found out that OS3.0 doesn't enable video recording on the 3G lol /me facepalms as he thought it did.

I've just come across this news.

Utterly, utterly extortionate. I can't believe they're charging what they do for the iPhone. I mean seriously, a 24 month contract for £70-odd a month to get the 32GB one free? Otherwise you have to pay a walloping great amount and still be tied down.

And the PAYG prices are utterly ridiculous as well.

I'm not going to get into the whole "I can afford it, I want it, so there" but come on, this is just beyond reasonable tbh. It may be an iPhone, but it's not like it's miles ahead of every other phone - other phones that are just as good, but a lot cheaper.

Id be seriously grateful to know what iPhone alternatives are out there. Just sitting down to work out the differing costs and I know Im not gonna like what I see...
